Paint Along with Jerry Yarnell Volume One - Painting Basics Kindle Edition

I like all of Jerry Yarnell's art books, and this is no exception. He discusses the basics, similar to information in his other books, especially in this series. Then he has different ten step-by-step painting projects (in oils, but useful for most other mediums as far as much of the basics). He covers mountains, skys / clouds, trees, buildings, birds, water, and similar, with his techniques readily transferable to a painting with your own subject matter. His techniques are more advanced compared to Bob Ross' Joy of Painting and similar, so could be considered a next step in one's painting education. Obviously I don't agree with some of the low ratings for this book. I've painted for decades, taught and sold oil and watercolor paintings in the past, and still value these books.

I love that Jerry Yarnell is a Christian, and gives all his praise to the Lord! On top of that, the instructions he gives in this book, as well as his other books, are clear and concise. He shows how to do different techniques, and mix colors. I’m artistically challenged, but I’m already learning a lot from this book. He gives paintings to paint with step by step instructions and illustrations for each step. It’s a very good book!

I haven't started painting yet. But reading thru it and for an acrylic artist of at least 15 years, I find good tips like using gesso for white and mixing! I've got tons of gesso! I have trouble making believable clouds which I am sure Jerry would help. Instructions seemed to be absolute clear and helps the pupil not to be bogged with terminology which would make me put the book away.

I had previously purchased a book by Jerry and was very pleased.However, this book is completely in black and white. It is extremely difficult to envision what the picture is supposed to look like since it is just shades of gray, even though Jerry does tell you what colors to use. I would return it, however, I bought it online and do not wish to pay the return shippingLinda Bodell.

I'm a very beginning painter with very little knowledge of the art. I wanted to make sure that it was something I could use and got the sample to start with. It showed the large brush and what it could do and I tried it and it worked great. I thought the book would continue to give me great tips. Instead it was like a text book with text book description. If I never watched the Youtube videos the book would convince me I can't paint and decide it was a lost cause. I might enjoy it when I learn more, but it is not for the very beginner.

This product is for beginning artists who what to learn some techniques for painting with acrylics. Jerry has step by step instructions along with photos and also explanations which I found very helpful. There are many different paintings to copy and different lessons taught with each painting. I would recommend this book for beginners.

This was the 1st book I bought by Jerry Yarnell. The book is well-written, thorough, & has great illustrations. It is full of good information that you can use in your own paintings, plus it has detailed, step by step instructions to enable you to see & apply the effects in your own work. He's a great teacher. This book is well worth the price. I love his style of painting & would definitely recommend it for a beginner or a professional artist's collection.

This book was bought for my husband who says it is excellent. Easy to follow and very informative. Would recommend.

great help on getting me started

Good starter book. I don't like the paintings very much. I am someone who has been painting animal portraits in oil a long time and now I want to put nice landscape type backgrounds behind them and use acrylics, which is why I bought the book. I think it will be good to work through the book and learn a few techniques. The instructions are really clear and well written.

Libro utile, ben illustrato, andrebbe aggiornato con dei quadri piu' attuali ma nel complesso e' utile per imparare una tecnica di pittura tradizionale.

My wife absolutely loved this book. She took some lessons and this book was an inspiration and a great source of knowledge. Highly recommended.
