The fun and easy way to improve your grammar Enhancing your speaking and writing skills helps in everyday situations, such as writing a paper for school, giving a presentation to a company's bigwigs, or communicating effectively with family and friends. English Grammar For Dummies , 2nd Edition gives you the latest techniques for improving your efficiency with English grammar and punctuation. Teaches the rules of verbs, adjectives, and adverbs; prepositions, propositions, and pronoun pronouncements; punctuation; possessives; and proofreading skills for all communication Geraldine Woods is the author of English Grammar Workbook For Dummies, College Admission Essays For Dummies, Research Papers For Dummies, SAT I For Dummies, 6th Edition, AP English Literature For Dummies, and AP English Language For Dummies For speakers and writers of all skill levels, English Grammar For Dummies , 2nd Edition provides easy-to-follow, practical information for improving your command of English grammar. Review: Thank you Ms. Woods, both insightful and entertaining. A huge help toward my efforts. - This book was a huge help in untangling the maze of English grammar for me. It's not as dry as most grammar books, which helps a lot. However, there were times when the humor obstructed the lesson. Plus, I would've liked more exercises on tearing apart entire random sentences. So I'd gain more confidence on what makes them tick. These are small criticisms against an excellent grammar book. I bought several others first, but they were so clinical and dry; I had trouble getting through them. I've used dummies books for all kinds of self-help. I've read their books on subjects like Microsoft Access and the 3D software Sketchup. I settled on this book when I made an Internet search for a grammar problem. The answer was an excerpt from this book and that's when I bought it. I outlined it which wasn't quick as it took six weeks, but now I have a stronger grasp on grammar. Review: Finally a way to learn English grammar - I have longed for a reference manual/instructional book that would make up for my lack of interest in grammar school. I finally found a great book that explains all the grammar rules. She has flags of items that frequently show up on tests, and detail information of some rules were important and now less so (but this is set off with a warning that it is for English teachers only). She uses example sentences that are correct and some that are incorrect to show the difference and then explains the difference. She points out the three different levels of grammar and has no problem with the familiar, but warns against using it when applying for a job or taking a SAT or ACT test. This is the one book we all need to improve our grammar.

Finally a way to learn English grammar

Perfect
I have worked in schools with children from grade 3 up through 12. I'm not a teacher but I do assist children with their work. The teachers don't seem to know usage themselves. I asked 2 high school English teachers a question about dangling participles and they acted like they never heard of such a thing. Short of having my old grammar textbook, this explains usage (dangling participles and all). Examples of incorrect and correct usage along with an explanation of why are given. I bring this to school and allow the children to look it up themselves thereby giving 2 lessons in 1.

Great to learn English for Speakers of Other Languages- You will be smug after reading it...LOL
I do not have very good grammar, as you may notice from my review, but believe me my grammar was a lot worse. The book is easy to read and good reference to keep. I am not a native English speaker but now I know many rules that natives don't know. Thanks to Ms. Woods. Now I have more confident when I speak or write way better than before. Actually, many of the rules make sense, Ms. Woods made them that way, the writer of that book nows how people think and what is the next question that come to your mind; therefore, she answer you questions if you keep reading. I recommended the book to other friends and I recommend it to you too. Fun and easy to read.

A good book to help improve and iron out the rough edges in their English writing skills.
A good book, but only for those who already have a grasp for the english language and only need to improve upon their writing grammer. Perhaps to help improve the flow or structure. Certainly not for someone with limited english reading skill.

a must have
I am currently taking a class called "advanced syntax an rhetoric" which is as horrifying as it sounds. This book has really helped me understand all aspects of a sentence, from the basics to the advanced. It's an easy read and uses sentence examples that are relatively complex (not too complex...after all it is a book for high school students)which is great, because those simple 5 word examples we always get from other books are completely worthless when you start having to analyze sentences with multiple nouns, verbs, appositives, infinitives, and prepositional phrases. So, in short, I suggest this book for everyone.

Great for ESL College Students
I'm a college student. English is not my first language and it was difficult for me to understand English grammar. I failed English 201 twice, so I decided to get this book before I took the class a third time. It is so easy to understand. I passed the class this time with a B+. I don't think I could have done it without this fabulous book. If you are struggling with your grammar you should get this book immediately. Specially is English is not your first language.

Looking for a Solid Review of English Grammar?
This book was an immensely fun, highly illuminating read! I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is desirous of acquiring a well-written resource for reviewing/learning the fundamentals of English grammar. It is a "must-buy" book! So enjoyable was it, in fact, that I will probably buy the workbook for it, as well! Way to go, Mrs. Woods! You penned a terrific book!

EXCELLENT - FUN TO READ - COVERS IT ALL
Excellent book. I was wary of a textbook without "Oxford" or "Cambridge" in the title, but don't worry. This book covers all the bases and it is fun to read as well, something which sets it apart from the crowd. Well done!

Sehr hilfreich
