A Good Learning Tool
I actually bought this for someone who has been in prison for about 21 years. He doesn't know much about computers so I had to explain a lot to him whenever I wrote about my comuter, which I use a lot. He says the book has taught him a lot, so I don't have to explain many computer things to him anymore. I suspect it would be equally helpful for anyone who knows little about computers. My friend isn't a "senior," but the description of this book was closest to what I was looking for for him.

Speaks non techy language
Reads easily, and explains how/why/what of computers in language even I get! Don't need grandkids to explain and I'm looking forward to learning more.

I was born in the 50's so I never learned anything about computers. I took typing in high school. I got introduced to computers in the mid 90's, but really new nothing more than e-mail. Now, I figured it's time to learn something so I can do more. This book is real informative, easy to read, and with a lot of practice, I might be able to remember what I learn. But I have the reference in case I forget.

A New Windows That Anyone Can Use
Book written by a person that believed what they wrote a book from the standpoint of a person that had known little aboutcomputers in the but wrote things from that standpoint and this took into account that those that read the book was ableto capture what most miss from the start. This enabled those that read the book to really understand computers enoughin a way that most books skip past or really don't cover enough for a person to really understand them. This to me enabled me to relax to a point that I was able to understand what I was reading. This enabled me to remember what Iread and felt relaxed and enabled me to remember what I read.

What I needed
This is a basic instruction book using Windows 8 and that is what I need. The language is for the non-technical person and I wanted to start out with my new laptop having enough knowledge that I would not get into trouble

Oxymoron: Windows 8 for dummies
Had to purchase the other book version, Windows 7 for dummies, that or have her learn alien computer skills? Remember Microsoft's comment about Windows 7...."Its not Vista"? If you are going to learn how to operate an computer for the first time, stay as far away as you can from Windows 8 operating system. PS "Windows 8 for dummies" is an oxymoron.

This was not helpful partly because there was too much info that did not help a senior who had no computer training. There had been a book for seniors prior to this one that was much more helpful because it did not assume the senior had experience with a computer.
