Elgin Trench Watches of the Great War

Fantastic book! Incredibly well researched and great color photos. A must buy.
Stan has done an amazing job with this book and also his book on Waltham watches. The depth of research is incredible. The work that must have gone into not just the research, but the fantastic color photos throughout the book. I have numerous books on watches and this one rates at the top of the shelf. I didn't know anything about WWI Trench watches before reading Stan's book - now I own a few. If you are a watch enthusiast you won't be disappointed and you may find yourself expanding your collection after reading it.

A terrific book
This heavily researched book offers a wealth of important information about WWI 'trench watches.' Although the focus is on Elgin, a lot of the information is relevant to other watchmakers of the era -- for example, cases, straps, and crystal guards, which were used interchangeably among many manufacturers. This is clearly a labor of love and is a must-have for any serious watch collector. It's a book you'll find yourself going back to often.

excellent, good
There are four types of watches on Horology; excellent, good, poor and coffee table. This book falls into the excellent category.Firstly Stan has done exceptional research, I could not find anything to dispute or question, secondly in addition to a lot of greatly photographed and cataloged pieces, we had those exceptional extra relevant facts likeChapter 1 Wristwatches Purchased for the US Army - US General Specification 579 - D (Oct 24th 1916)Chapter 9 "Crystal Guards" - Exceptional research, with outstanding examples and original adverts.Chapter 10 "Dial Date Stamps" - A side of the watch, few rarely ever see or knew existed.Chapter 13 "Straps, Buckles & Fasteners - Super interesting, a compendium of facts few of us ever bothered to research or indeed take notice of.Chapter 15 "Case Grades" - Great information all clearly laid out.All the watch photographs and descriptions are of the highest quality, that plus all those outstanding photos of original adverts, makes this book a MUST for any serious Horologist. No one had really ever bothered to document so called "trench" watches, no one had really taken their time to research the truth from the myths, this book is a great resource for anyone interested in WWI wristwatchesWell done.Adam R. Mr. Czubernat nailed it!
Mr. Czubernat nailed it! I've read a few books about watches but they were all very weak when it came to the WWI era "Trench Watches". Stan's book is a scalpel, all the others were merely a broadsword. You don't just have to be a fan of Elgin Trench Watches to buy this book, there is a ton of great cross-over information that relates to other brands like Waltham and Illinois too. He gives information in great detail covering a very wide range of topics from proper names, cases, dials, movements, straps and shrapnel guards. The full color pictures are incredible, very crisp. Other watch books only had black and white pictures which left me rather disappointed. From what I understand Stan is currently writing another book about Waltham Trench Watches, I will certainly purchase his next book as well.

Superb and comprehensive production.
Really well conceived and executed. I understand it is no longer available from this supplier but still available from Stan's own website.
