English Etiquette: The Motivation Behind the Manners

The author does a lovely job of updating traditional etiquette and showing us why it is still so important today. Full of practical tips and gentle reminders of 'old fashioned' values that will always hold true. This is not about using the right fork at dinner, but showing consideration and kindness for others - in whatever social setting you happen to find yourself. This book would make an excellent gift for any young lady leaving home to make her way in the world - or indeed anyone looking to bring a little extra English charm to their life!

This book tickles me pink. It is utterly charming, funny and informative. It takes you by the hand and leads you through the mine field of English Etiquette. Unlike traditional etiquette books it gives you useful advice, my favourite being "How to Pose for a Photograph" sheer genius. This is the perfect gift for any girl friend who seems to have it all, but may not know the correct rules of parking (yes that is in there!) such a good read and beautifully written.

Being a follower of the Darling Academy, and a big fan of the author's last book, I was very excited to purchase English Etiquette, and it didn't disappoint. A thoroughly well written and thought provoking book challenging me to review the way in which I conduct myself in everyday life. Not a bad refresher at age 40+! Amongst many things I was reminded I can't go far wrong if I keep kindness at the heart of my motivations when decision making. Totally recommend for those lovers of all things English.

The book is excellent for both men and women and reminds us all how to behave with more grace and decorum.

This book is a great read with lots of useful tips to teach your children or yourself on how to live life in a more considerate way (which is of course very English). I have enjoyed the author’s style of writing making it easy to read and interesting.

It is wonderfully written and I trust my English Convent manners will be truly delightful now } gradually improving.

Good little refresher course on the reasons behind good manners and basic decency. Sadly, these things are approaching extinction in our shallow society which glorifies self-expression as the be-all and end-all of life.This book has a British slant, making it more interesting. It is healthy to see different viewpoints. The book is easy to read, and worth reading. But I didn’t like the author’s slightly archaic views (revealed late in the book) about giving her husband the ultimate authority in their household. What? Surely there are better solutions, such as sharing and cooperation.

Best book on the subject ever! I highly recommend it! This book is exactly what I always wanted! Johanne from Canada
