This is a larger-than-life tale about the African-American hero who was born with a hammer in his hand. Join John Henry on a scenic journey from cotton country to the wilderness, where he finds men of all colors working together to build a great railroad. In no time, John Henry becomes king of the railroad camps by driving more steel than any man alive. And, in an exciting contest that pits man against machine, he single-handedly out-performs a new-fangled steam drill. This rousing tale delivers an inspirational message about pride and perseverance. Great, even after 25yrs since the last time I read/heard!
I grew up reading & listening to this tale. It was one of the first books I learned to read as a child. I loved it so much. It had been about 25 years since I had heard the audio version. I'm 30yrs old now. I love it just as much now as when I was 5yrs old!

A good show for young kid's
Saw this as a kid in elementary school and liked it. When I saw it on Amazon I said I bet my nieces would like this. So I bought it for them and they do like it. Now they are into the old stories and myths about not only John Henry but others as well.

Great gift great buy
My kids loved it. It's not a typical cartoon but is actually a narrated story so it was a little surprising to me but my kids liked it just fine. Great narration by Denzel. Would buy as a gift for others.

Didn’t like it
The story of John Henry should be told with pride and not like a Mother Goose or Uncle Remus story .
