How close to zero does it get you with a scope?

Very close with my red dots. I set a table up om one end of a tweleve foot room. Set and locked my rifle into a gun vice. Inserted the bore Laser into the chamber. With bore light show on the far wall I aligned my red dot on top of it. I did this with a 12 gauge pump, several .223 rifles and a 9mm carbine. All using different bore sights of course. At range everything was within two clicks or right on. I did adjust the .223 and 9 to shoot a little higher. Twelve gauge was right on for twelve feet, which is good range for a home shotgun.

Does this one turn on when trigger is pulled or does it stay on all time once place in chamber?

The laser turns on when the batteries are inserted and the cap is screwed on. There is no switch. You won't want to pull the trigger when this is in the chamber, as the back of the boresighter is brass and likely won't react well to a firing pin strike. It works pretty well. Keep in mind you just use this to align your sights and then eject the round. To store it you unscrew the rear cap and remove the batteries.
