Meet the 6Gv2What is a gaming keyboard? Up until the release of the SteelSeries 6Gv2 it was clear that in order to be considered a “gaming” keyboard it had to in some way glowed in the dark. Don’t take that the wrong way, we do like things that have lights and can be a bit flashy, but we don’t believe that’s what should define or set apart a keyboard for gaming. As we began to design the 6Gv2, we wanted to offer a keyboard that would do more than emulate the bridge console on the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 and instead, we focused on raw performance and durability. We took a long look at the most extreme use scenarios for keyboards and designed a keyboard that would meet and (in most cases) exceed every one of them. That’s why we refer to the 6Gv2 as the “heavyweight of gaming keyboards”. It’s not the prettiest chick in the beauty pageant. It doesn’t glow or pulse. But it packs a punch. A serious one.Mechanical switchesSteelSeries 6Gv2 is built with mechanical no-click switches. The users experience with mechanical switches is very different compared to using the “soft feel” keys found on conventional keyboards or even laptops. So how is it different? Read on!50 million key pressesTraditional keyboards are built with small rubber domes under the keys. It is these rubber domes that provides the “soft feel” level of resistance when you type. When you operate a rubber dome keyboard, the keys needs to be pressed down until a membrane switch is activated. These membrane switches will slowly wear out, typically after one to five million key presses. You may already have tried this. After a while you will find yourself pressing harder and harder to get the keyboard to register key presses. Typing gradually becomes annoying and irritating – but when you’re gaming and you start missing critical in-game commands, frustration sets in. The 6Gv2 offers a lifecycle of 50 million key presses per key, which is more than 10 times of the amount than conventional keyboards.Tacktile feedbackBut the 6Gv2 offers more than just a long lifecycle. The rubber domes on a conventional keyboard will, over time, lose their tactile feeling due to rubber flexing. The keys you use the most will start to feel different. The physical construction of the mechanical switches used in the 6Gv2, and the strict tolerance levels in which the switches are manufactured, is what allows the key presses on this keyboard to always feel consistent.Travel distanceIt gets even better. With the 6Gv2 you don’t have to press the keys all the way down for them to register. Our mechanical switches will register key presses fast; the travel distance will be roughly 50% shorter than a conventional keyboard. You will type faster, with a consistent tactile feeling. Your Actions Per Minute (APM) can reach new heights with the 6Gv2 thanks to this feature.AcclimationIt will take a while to get used to a mechanical keyboard, most gamers or typists acclimate in approximately 1 to 2 weeks. Once you are properly acclimated you will appreciate better tactile feedback, superior response times and ultimately greater control. Simply put: You will become a better typist. And it's heavyWe don’t just call it “heavyweight” because it packs the best performance in the industry. The 6Gv2 is also physically heavy. All keys are mounted on a metal plate within the keyboard to ensure durability. The plastic material used to create the keyboard has metal elements, also to help to improve durability. We’re just like you. That’s why we know you can get “frustrated” when you lose a game. You may even hit something in front of you when it happens. Like a keyboard. We tried to take that into consideration when we designed the 6Gv2. Disclaimer: Don’t hit your stuff. It’s not nice.Punch worthyThe design and build quality of the SteelSeries 6Gv2 keyboard stands up to fast fingers, fists and furious slams. Its iron-infused plastic surface and keys present an optimal feel that when coupled with Cherry™ Black MX switches, gamers will find faster registered key presses and increased Actions Per Minute (ACM).Not a fruitCherry Black MX switches are the toughest and highest quality key switches available on the market. SteelSeries’ 6Gv2 is the only gaming keyboard on the market that has them. They bring the lifecycle of a keyboard up to 50 million key presses (the average is only about 6 million). Wow, that’s a a lot of gaming…and typing.Redefining “anti-ghosting”Ever tried pressing a few keys on your keyboard and getting a beep sound? It either happens when you press too many keys at the same time, or when you press too many keys within the same cluster at the same time (like the keys around WASD which often used for movements in games). If your keyboard exhibits this behavior it will hinder your ability to perform certain actions, movement in a FPS games being one example. The industry has labeled this anti-ghosting. When using USB, you can use up to 6 keys plus modifiers at the same time, which is the highest spec limit a USB connection can accommodate.Other Characteristics: Colour of product: BlackDevice interface: USBKeyboard form factor: StandardKeyboard layout: QWERTYLED indicators: YesMouse included: NoPlug and Play: YesPower source type: USBProgrammable hot keys: YesRecommended usage: GamingUSB 2.0 ports quantity: 1USB required: Yes

Certainly superior to my previous keyboard in some aspects
Just got this keyboard so I can't comment on the print fading issues, overall its quite a decent keyboard, the key resistance isn't as much as I expected, it is in line with what I'm used to, the build is very solid as you would expect, it feels like even if I press hard on the keys all the time it will still hold up, the keys make a nice clacking sound when they hit the base plate, but its not excessively loud, most likely the razer blackwidow is much louder, the key spacing and layout seem quite good, the keys are closer together than I expected, I'd even go so far as to say the keys are smaller than my logitech flat micro keyboard. The cable is not braided but it seems quite thick and strong, the status LEDs are white rather than the typical green. There is no height adjustment at the back to change the angle of the keyboard but it seems fine as it is.The only issues I've noticed so far is that all the front keys including the space key are angled away from the user, this means when I'm pressingspace I'm actually always pressing the edge of the key instead of the top, so its putting pressure onto my thumb which results in a strange feeling, not sure what effect this will have in long term use, I haven't encountered this with any of my other keyboards, This issue may be reduced if you are using a wrist rest. The other thing I noticed typing this is that the right side shift key is smaller than the left side one, which means I'm often hitting the # key instead of the shift.

excellent gaming and office keyboard
I remember when all keyboards were this quality ( back in the first IBM PC days ), the feel, build quality and robust design of this keyboard are all excellent, the layout is just how a keyboard should be, simple and fit for purpose. It was bought mainly for gaming and with the USB to PS2 adaptor it's really fast and responsive with that nice enjoyable sound, but it's also excellent to use for all office tasks.Like one reviewer has pointed out some of the key lettering is wearing out, I tried cleaning to make sure it was not dirt build up but it does seem they wear quickly, with gaming some keys could be get pressed a 1000 times a game and it's these keys that are wearing, that said it will not be many keycaps to replace should I need to, so I would still recomend this keyboard for gaming or office use.

Great build quality!
I was looking for a replacement for my razer blackwidow that wouldn't malfunction as easily and this keyboard has great build quality and even more responsive mechanical switches.Steelseries really provides excellent build quality and simple yet stylish designs.

Steelseries for Gamers
Highly suited to meet you gaming requirements on both Mac OSX & Windows.Steelseries supports both operating systems and so I give the product the full 5 stars along with being a hardy make given the amount of tapping involved in gaming, more than say a typist sitting in an office would.

Brilliant, simple, mechanical keyboard.
Pros:Looks really goodClean linesSimple layout (US)Very satisfying click noise to the keysReally solid and heavyReally easy to push each keyCons:The key fonts look like there painted on with Tipp-Ex.After two weeks solid gaming, the 'S' key is worn down and I suspect other keys to start to disappear also.Come Steelseries what's that all about? 100 pound keyboard for gods sake!!

great keyboard
I bought this keyboard a year ago from the american amazon, and well it's absolutely faultless. Brilliant for gaming, by far the best keyboard I ever used (there's a reason so many professional gamers use it over other options, even other steelseries boards) and it's also very good for accurate typing. Some people say that black switches are tiring to type on but this isn't the case at all. Once you're used to the extra resistance typing becomes easy, and the resistance means keys return to height faster than any of the other MX flavours making it perfect for anything required fast button presses. As far as noise, it's quieter than Blues without the loud clicking on bottoming out, and about the same volume as other flavours. I would highly recommend this keyboard for anyone who wants rock-solid reliability, top performance, with no pointless gimmicks.I've attached a picture of mine after 3 solid years of hard use, if anyone thinks these boards don't last or are prone to fading. This board has had a lot of food fall into it and even suffered a coffee spill but after a 30min clean it looks and plays as good as new.The one tiiiny criticism I have is that it sits quite high and there is no wrist support, so I advise getting a foam wrist support to go with it.
