Fantastic Planer! Worth Every Penny!
I had several interior doors that were binding-up in spots, and decided it was finally time to do something about them.. Ordered this, and tackled them right away.. The planer worked flawlessly. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's more technique than anything.. Watching a couple of youtube videos will help.. As well, you can adjust it to take off such a small amount of wood per pass, it's pretty hard to make a big mistake.. Firm pressure on the front plate at the beginning of the cut, and more pressure on the rear plate as you're finishing the cutting pass.. And as you build your technique, you can easily adjust the cutting depth to take a little more material off per pass.. The included metal guide was very helpful in keeping everything in alignment.. I didn't use the dust bag, but did appreciate the dual exhaust ports.. I would not buy one of these without that feature. The bottom-line is, I don't think I would have been any happier with a planer costing 2x-3x as much. I do wish it came with a tool bag (only the cardboard box), but otherwise, this is a fantastic planer, and a bargain at the price.. Very pleased with it..

great product
works great, accurate smooth finish - adjustable in small increments. handles easily I took 3/8" in increments ( with and against the grain of the wood) off bottom of a 2" solid mahogany front door in little time. I highly recommend this tool. You need one.

Great planer, with one caveat!
I don't know how they make this tool for such a low price. The bag it comes with is a joke, but I'm not complaining, because who can at this price? It doesn't have quite as much power as my coworkers Makita (and maxes out 1/32 sooner), but it has handled everything that I've tossed at it just fine. Plastic quality appears good, and the base is substantial. It is a little bit on the heavier side, but I don't mind that. Dust collection is stellar, and I appreciate the mesh bag over the usual crappy cloth. I have one major caveat that deducts one star. The kickstand is poorly designed and will not allow you to start in the middle of a work piece. Because of the shape of it and the material, it does not grab the work surface to disengage...it just slips along... I'm thinking I might coat it with silicone or something to make it grab better. Hopefully that will solve the issue. Great planer over all!

Works as expected
I used it to plane pressure-treated 5/4 x 3-1/2 lumber, it works very well. The depth adjustment is easy to set, the tool is easy to handle, and leaves a smooth finish. Overall a good tool.

Nice tool. Dust bag works ok, use right out of the box.
No complaints. Worked great for planing overly crowned floor joists. Sure it was new but it left a very clean edge. Could see this being used on finished edges of doors etc. Better pricing than Makita.

Way better than I expected
I had 3 doors that needed to replaced. All of them needed to be planed in order to fit better. I really didn't want to spend $100-$200 dollars for a planer, so I bought an inexpensive portable Ryobi door trimmer at Home Depot ($20) which was a disaster. Next I rented a Milwaukee planer for a day ($25). Worked OK, but had issues. A few days later during some humid weather, two of the doors started to stick. By now, you have probably figured out I don't do carpentry for a living. So my next step was to look for a low cost alternative to the big brand name planers and came across this Porter-Cable. How bad could it be? After reading some positive reviews I ordered it. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP PLANER ALTERNATIVE. It was just as heavy and well built as the Milwaukee and worked better. The adjustments were easier, worked better, and it took me fewer passes. Surfaces were baby smooth. The planer guide helped keep the planner at right angles. Don't know anything about reliability, but for now I can highly recommend this planer.

Very pleased, one minor complaint
First the minor complaint. The planer has two ports where sawdust is forced out. The idea is to place the dust collector bag over one of the two ports, flip a switch on the port to direct dust to the port where the bag is attached, then get to work. Problem is, my switch is reversed -- if I put it in the right-hand position, dust blows out of the left port and vice-versa. I can live with it. Easy to use right out of the box. Depth settings are easy, edge chamfer works fine. I made a table top out of three 2X6X3 ft cypress, glued together with dowels. The planer smoothed out the ends and edges as well as top and bottom in about 15 minutes. Sanded a few minutes with orbital sander and the tabletop is very smooth. Wish it came with a carrying case to hold the edge guide, wrench, and extra blades, but, I have a small canvas satchel that fits perfectly.
