The Big Book of Reading Comprehension Activities, Grade 1: 120 Activities for After-School and Summer Reading Fun Paperback – April 16, 2019

This workbook is AMAZING. I recommend it often. As a speech-language pathologist, I really appreciate the activities and the way the author developed and created them. The skills targeted are wonderful--Braun is excellent at incorporating activities that target key skills such as reading, comprehension, vocabulary, answering questions, etc. I highly recommend these work books for all grade levels!

We have a lot of workbooks and this one is our favorite non-math workbook. Our 5 year old was working on some of the Brainquest books (he loves the summer ones cause they have stickers and a map :). But the reading comprehension activities for 2nd to 3rd grade were over his head (not surprisingly), and he usually struggled through the comprehension activities even in books 1st-2nd grade, although he can read quite well.This one is perfect. He can do the activities in a reasonable time, however what we like the most about these is that they build the skills and have great topics! They introduce kids to all sorts of awesome topics (history, science, health, arts, etc.) in a very age appropriate way, and they are not too long! It keeps his attention while he reads it out to us. He started working on these a year ago, and we have finished the 2nd grade book now. These books are great! We have the 3rd grade, and it looks good (but it's way too soon for him to do, although he wants it :0).What I like a lot is that It gets your child to think in a different way. It really challenges them to think more critically. I like that it is not all multiple choice (a lot of comprehension books have the same type of questions - usually multiple choice - over and over). These are more creative. I feel she really put in the effort and really thought through what the goal is for the child. They get progressively harder, but not impossible.My son enjoys these. The book is in color (which is not always the case!) and I think that helps to make it more engaging for children. It is also of high quality - nice paper quality and none of the pages fall out after every day use.I think these are great to use along with other books and workbooks. It will set your child on a great path being able to read and comprehend what they read. They will be able to express the important ideas and what they think about those ideas.

We have a summer goal of improving my son's reading comprehension and I ordered this book hoping it would help. I think it's a great resource. The stories and accompanying questions are short and not overly difficult. We can do a lesson quickly and depending on time... We may even do a few lessons. I don't think you can go wrong having this book as part of your reading and comprehension game plan.

It was a useful learning tool for my granddaughter, as she improved her reading skills over the summer.

This is a great workbook for 1st graders to practice reading comprehension. The activities break up the reading which keeps it more engaging for kids who have a short attention span. My son said he loves it because he gets to draw. I would recommend.

My ADHD child likes doing the stories in this book and the activities that come with it. She is usually reluctant to participate fully in homework/sit down instruction at school but enjoy these. I feel they have helped with her attention span in school as well.

Our daughter loves this review book. She has made great progress in her reading comprehension.

The Big Book of Reading Comprehension Activities is fantastic for keeping first graders engaged and learning! With 120 activities, it’s perfect for after-school practice or summer reading fun. The exercises are well-designed, easy to follow, and help build important comprehension skills. My child loves the variety and interactive nature of the activities. Highly recommend for parents or teachers looking to make reading both educational and enjoyable!
