Very Good Book, but pertains more toward the Prehistoric Age
like I said, good book, but a bit outdated. The author talks about 50 MByte disk drives as being huge and about 5 inch floppy disks. This is like reading Aristotle's physics instead of Newton's. If you use DOS it will help you of course, but ignore most of the talk about hardware. Covers DOS commands very well. Contains interesting trivia about computers too (the life span of a hard drive is about 4 years, unless this is outdated too). To conclude, if you use DOS, it will suite you. Even better seem to be the DOS reference book for Dummies.

this is a great book! It is well organized and fun to ...
"Dos for Dummies" was the first ever "Dummies Book". If you want to understand your computer from the ground level, this is a great book! It is well organized and fun to read, funny at times and not intimidating. What an age in which we live; it has never been easier to shop and compare prices. Thanks Amazon, you make us proud to live in Washington State!

The Short List
The manuals that come with DOS editions are very complete. However, time is of the essence and something a bit more abridged works wonders. Also, if the idea is to train or retrain someone on DOS, this book is a fun way to get back in to it.

straight forward.
Its Ok. its very simple and straight to the point. I didnt think it was anything exiting about the book but it does do a good job of simplifying the definition of DOS and providing a good intro and information on its use.

I'm a Dummy, to find out why, read on!
Bought the book, stuck it in the cupboard and forgot all about it. Un- earthed it again a couple of weeks back but can't remember why I bought it. I know this seems a bit pointless, but I do have other dummies books ,authored by Dan Gooking and find them very useful. when I remember why I bought it in the first place I'm sure it will be useful too. If you want to find out how to do things on a PC, MAC, Tablet etc. Borrow one from the library. I guarantee you will buy your own copy

Not a bad book
Ok, I have never ever used dos, so this book is great, its nice and easy to read and very helpful to get you going, but! his jokes are very bad and there just too many, I just started to get really into a subject and he would just spoil it with a very geeky sad joke. Other than that the book is fantastic for dos beginners.
