Clear is Better than White; Use Thinner Wick!
I bought six of these planters, three clear ones from this seller, and three white ones from another seller. While I initially liked the uber-clean look of the white planters, the clear, I have discovered, are better. Because it's crucial not to overfill the reservoir (to avoid drowning the plant), the clear allows me to see how much water I've added. In the beginning I had to pour out a little each time I filled the reservoir because I'd always added a tad more water than I realized. With the solid white planters, there is no way to accurately gauge this. Many plants prefer to be watered from the bottom, and this planter allows them to suck up what they need. The design is great. The wick provided, however, is way too thick. I nearly killed my first (and best) African violet after transplanting it to this pot. I couldn't figure out why it suddenly plummeted, until I felt the soil and discovered that it was absolutely saturated. I bought more wick material from the hardware store (1 mm thick) and repotted the plant, allowing it to dry out some before adding more water. Problem solved. Since then I have cut a new 1 mm wick for each plant that I've potted, and that size works perfectly.

A solid 4 star self watering planter - minor gripes
I travel so I exclusively use many varieties of self watering planters inside and outside. I have a few sizes of these. The good: Very good price for a self watering planter with visible water level, clear looks pretty classy, wicking is a very smart way to go for smaller pots, rather than grid. I’ll buy more. The meh: watering is a little tricky without exactly the right can. It’s easy to wash soil into the pretty clear reservoir. The wicking is like shoelace stuff, not quality glass water wick. It seems to work *okay*. This will build up visible hard water stains so definitely use distilled water.I wouldn’t buy a opaque one. Seeing the level is a must.

Excellent and nice looking!
I love these planters. In just 2 months, my African Violets have tripled in size. The only thing I would like to suggest is including a simple instruction sheet for setting up plants in the planters. I searched the internet to find instructions, but I could only find ways to build a self watering container from scratch. After no luck, I decided to bore a hole through the roots, thread the wick through the hole with one end leading to the water, and it worked very well. I put lava rock in the bottom and just a small amount of African Violet soil to be combined with the existing soil of my plants. My violets love them! I love the fact that I never need to worry about the plants drying out. Thank you for these excellent planters.

Works well for Venus Fly Traps
This pot seems to work well with the venus fly trap that I have in it. The plant is much bigger than when I received it, and I dont have to remember to water it all of the time. I did loop the rope thru the soil and the water 3-4 times instead of the recommended one time because fly traps do best in very wet soil.

Perfect for my herb garden
These are perfect for an herb garden on my window sill. There is plenty of room for my basil and cilantro to grow and thrive. I like the clear outer shell, it helps me keep the water at the right levels. I love being able to go on trips and not worry about my plants!

Is Wicking away!
I have set up some African Violets with a 50% perilite mix and these pots are doing a great job of keeping them just right. Happy violets! I seem to get 2+ weeks before I need to add a little water, so I no longer have to worry when I travel.

The best self-watering pots, easy to use and looks crisp & clean
I absolutely love these pots! The outer shell is made of a sturdy hard plastic (acrylic?) that is crystal clear and makes it really easy to see when it is time to add more water. The inner pot is made of a softer plastic which fits into the outer shell perfectly without having to fumble around making things line up. There is a opening to pour water into without having to run it through the soil or remove the inner pot. In between the heft of the outer part and the water in the reservoir, this easily holds up even top heavy plants.A few tips: to keep the wick bright white and the water in the reservoir nice and clear, do not add water to the soil. Water through the opening only. If you forget to do the above, no biggie, just lift the inner pot out and wash out the reservoir. You can even rinse the wick clean too by (carefully!) tilting the inner pot under running water.I haven't had any algae growth issues in the water but if I did, it would be easy to fix by cleaning the outer pot with a sponge meant for cleaning acrylic aquariums. The Medium size is a perfect fit for African violets, mine have finally rebloomed after being transplanted into these pots.
