Like some other uses mentioned, I too purchased this as a direct replacement. I had a bit of an issue with an HVAC company trying to con my wife, so I decided to fix the problem myself. Obviously, you can buy much more advanced models for less money, but then you need to install them properly, and that's the key. I still saved $400 based on a quote I was given.Read if you are replacing the exact same model, go into the staller's menu before you remove the old one. There are separate instructions on how to do this included with the thermostat. The installer menu has about 20 different categories each with multiple settings, everything from setting the date/time, to enabling dual-fuel systems. I took the instructions which lists each settings category and I jotted down the settings of the old unit onto the new instructions. When you put the new unit on, go to the same menu and enter all of the old settings. This is way easy than trying to decipher the individual settings themselves. I have a dual-fuel system, and the out of box thermostat is not enabled for dual-fuel, so the installer settings are very important. It works just like the old one now.

We upgraded our thermostat to this model and like that we can program the thermostat. Easy display to program. Great value for the price.

This was an exact replacement. Bought a “used” one (I.e., no box and no instructions), as it was an exact replacement and I already knew how to program it (having had to figure that out when I had bought this house with the original I was replacing … one that no one had ever programmed). No problems whatsoever. Fast delivery and the unit was clean, as if it were brand new.But, you might ask, why did I need to replace the original? Because I had ignored one very important instruction … do not ever spray windex on the screen to clean off the finger prints that end up there every time someone uses their sticky fingers to override the programmed settings. The windex spray killed the touchscreen mechanism. Only spray the cloth, not the screen! The programmed thermostat continued to function after the “spray and wash,” but the settings were forever frozen in place. An expensive lesson.I considered installing a smart thermostat to replace the “frozen” touchscreen, but I figured if I am not smart enough to clean this one properly, I might not be smart enough for a smart thermostat.

My trane thermostat started changing settings on its own. Looked all over for a different replacement, but eventually decided to try an identical replacement and was quickly glad I did. Just remove the old and plug the new one in and problem solved. One minor issue is that they do not include the detailed settings in the homeowner lit. You have to download those which allows you to put in the "installer" settings, such as the outside temperature reading and settings applying to electric and propane heating options. It's more expensive than many, but has a lot in it.

This is not necessarily a simple plug in, depending on your system. I thought this would be a simple plug in and it would work. I was wrong. For a while I was really upset that I thought I had bought a faulty unit. However, some patience paid off. I had to go through the installation setup, which is more involved that the owner setup, and compared the settings to those on the old unit it was replacing. I found several settings that were different from the factory default, and changing those made the thermostat work. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have the old settings to go by. I probably would have had to call out a technician. I was just lucky that the old unit still worked. If you have a similar experience and don't have access to the correct settings, you will need to know what you are connecting your thermostat to in order to get it to work properly. I was pleased to get an email directly from the seller offering assistance, and if I hadn't had success with the setup I might have contacted them first. Bottom line - I am completely satisfied with this purchase, including how fast it came.

Blew three of these thermostats for no obvious reason. Furnace was only about six years old at the time. Finally changed to an Emerson thermostat for heat pump furnace system and has worked ever since even though this model Trane was what was originally used with our system.
