Great Blade with a lot of attention to detail.
I have done quite a bit of ocean sailing but am currently in the whitewater rafting industry and was looking for a knife that would hold a razor edge, had something to get ropes undone and could be dedicated just that purpose. Being a fan off steel and wood this model stood out, and since it is a tool that I need to perform flawlessly when employed (being my go-to blade for cutting rope, clothes, boats, or anything else) I was happy to spend the money on this knife. When it came I was not disappointed and look forward to getting good use out of it in the years to come.Solidly built and well thought out. The knife is ready to use out of the box. With such a large blade and the spike I was expecting it to be very heavy but though it feels solidly built and I can feel the weight in my hand I would not say it is a heavy knife and is lighter then my Buck 110. The shackle key on the blade can be used for one hand opening, and the liner lock means that the spring doesn't try and push the blade back down, though it does make it a little stiff, but nothing a good grip and a little practice cant get past for anyone with reasonably strong hands. The Myerchin whale detail on the blade is a nice touch, though I don't really like their 'second generation' stamp on the other side. Each Blade is stamped with a serial number as well, with mine coming in at the 900's, which gives it an little extra feel of quality. The blade and marlin spike both lock securely into place with a satisfying 'click' and don't have any play in them once locked. There are lots more details in this knife that I wont go over, from the fit to the finish, and the way the clip is bent so it doesn't catch as much when it is hanging out of your pocket, but all in all it is a very well built, finely detailed knife! Two details threw me off a little. The first was the lanyard ring Which is too thin to inspire any confidence it will hold if it takes a beating and cannot be easily improved since the marlin spike opens into the space you would need to run another piece of wire or line through to make a stronger one. I am surprised that they did not engineer it in a similar fashion to the clip which has three sturdy screws holding it securely in place. The other detail is in the handle. The wood is dark and oily, and cut well to fit the knife (although mine did come with a few dings out of the box, but it will get more quickly so that didn't bother me too much). The part that drew my attention is where the wood separates from the handle for the liner lock, leaving just a wafer of wood where it meets the handle. For the use that I have in mind this shouldn't be a problem, but if I was planning to use hard I would probably have switched to a titanium or G10 handle, both options that the company offers that would eliminate this problem.

The Wire Bail is Junk
The knife they show in the picture isn't the one they're selling; I had one of those, loved it, and somebody decided they needed it more than I did. People who use riggers knives rather than just wear them use lanyards to hang on to them. The lanyard bail on the current iteration is JUNK. After a couple of days of not really even using the knife in any demanding way, the wire bail was lost and gone forever. If you can get one with the heavy stamped steel bail shown in the picture, buy it, love it, and don't let anyone steal it. Don't waste your money on the one with the wire bail if you actually plan to use the knife.
