NICE!
Wow Really NICE! Well made too! This is my 4th. one! Get them while you can as this model is no longer being made.Very sharp & strong. It is not a " lock blade " but when opened it stay's firmly in place. When you first get it oil it good, then let it sit overnight. Then clean off all oil inside & out and just put 2 drops of oil on the outside ( open it 1/2 way & oil by the hinge area. and ( open all the way & oil by the hinge area) inside. I cut the loop of on the end on one and filed it down to smooth it out. Nice & flat!

Sturdy Knife, But Rather Difficult to Open, Needs Lubrication
Sharp right out of the box. As another reviewer said, it's rather stiff and hard to open - two hands and then some! However, I'm hoping that with some recommended mineral oil lubrication that will help. Until that is done I don't think I would be able to use it as a pocket knife for EDC. It locks securely open, so no danger at all of folding back in on itself. Very slim profile, so thus a good fit for a pocket knife. Has a bale on it for those who wish to attach with paracord. BTW, I purchased the single blade version. The stamping on the outside is nice ("The Genuine British Army Knife," etc.) Part of it is in 'Old English' font, and looking at a review online another version of this knife has regular font. Not sure why the difference, but the paper work included assures me that this is an original. I noticed that several did not give this knife a very good review, but I'm not sure I'd agree with their assessments. It appears quite solid with its all stainless steel construction, much like my US Military Utility Knife, and as I said it's very sharp. The only obvious drawback, thus far, is the difficulty opening it. Although labeled a genuine British Army Knife, it appears that the single blade version made not have been 'officially' issued to British troops. Nonetheless, it will be a great addition to my collection.Update: I used mineral oil, as directed, but it did not help as much as I hoped. My latest attempt has been to use gun oil, and that seems to be loosening the knife up. It is an especially stiff knife to open, but I think with some oil and use it will loosen up more in time.

Nice and sturdy but tough to open
This stainless steel knife comes reasonably sharp . I think I added to its' sharpness with some swipes on a whetstone , so sharpening does not seem to be too difficult. The knife has a slim profile and does not clog up your pockets. No pocket clip and/or thumb stud...fine with me ! It comes with instructions to give it a lubricating coat of oil.....the instructions mention mineral oil specifically. However, this knife most assuredly has a stiff opening and closing. It will take two hands and some strength on your part. That's ok with me also....makes knife feels firm and sturdy . The blade is a sheepsfoot style. Giving this one a 4 to 4.5 star rating.

Can't go wrong with this knife!
Great little knife for a great price. Comes packaged in a nice box with a certificate of authenticity. A few passes with a sharpening steel took off the factory wire edge, a little mineral oil on the tang to flush out the grit, a piece of leather lace for a short knotted lanyard, and I've got an outstanding EDC work blade that I'm not afraid to use. Handle is very thin, approx. 3/16 in. thick, making it light and unobtrusive to carry. This is my first English-made knife, and I'm not disappointed. Lives up to the I-XL name. I love the feeling of history that goes into a 300 year old brand. I also appreciate the military grade utility, no frills, but with some nice finishing details if you look closely. It's interesting to see how a British military issue knife compares to a U.S. military knife (sheepsfoot blade vs. spear blade, etc.). I carry mostly GEC pocket knives, and I bought this to pair with a GEC to handle tougher cutting chores. Personally I like the hard pull weight, since it's a work knife.

Dazzling little knife for a great price!
This is an AWESOME little knife! My brother, his college-age daughter and I are really into work knives, and this is a beaut. Bought one for my brother for his birthday, and thought I'd get one for me, too. When they arrived, they were even nicer than the picture. Tight, but not crazy-tight to open, SHARP, and slender. Just the right size for the pocket. My brother of course sharpened his even more--could probably slice an atom with it.Our family is British, so we especially get a kick out of the inscription, which is crisp and quite readable. Also made in an area our family is from, so double whammy cool. Nice little u-hook on the end to attach a lanyard. The price was VERY reasonable. Shockingly decent quality for the price. I am very happy with this purchase. May get more for gifts for family and friends.

Nicks
I bought the Navy version from a tool seller and it was perfect. This knife was a single blade version. The body of the handle has nicks in it, not perfect. Quality control issue or selling Defects? Blade is still good. Notice the crooked print in the bottom knife

Simple knife. Well built and keeps a good edge. Robust in the hands.

Disappointed in the fit and finish
I have been very satisfied with the quality of the knives I have bought recently. So I was disappointed with this one.Three issues. The bail is immoveable, the blade is very hard to open or close and a metal shaving was caught between leaving s very sharp protrusion on the back.
