Color:Pearl The Starfish in the Sea Urn is a wonderful urn to assist in scattering ashes. The popularity of scattering a loved one’s ashes at sea is steadily growing. However, scattering ashes directly overboard can be troublesome because the ashes will drift around and can stick to the bottom of the boat. The Starfish in the Sea is 320 cubic inches, made of clay and cotton, and 100% biodegradable. It will float briefly, then sink gracefully and break down naturally over time. Three detailed starfish sit upon rocks making this a large 17 inch lovely urn. Simply place a loved ones ashes in a biodegradable water soluble bag that is included. Then place the bag in the bowl. The bowl attaches to the bottom of The Starfish in the Seal with biodegradable glue and clips. Remove the clips before burial. The bowl has a 5” flat base so The Starfish in the Sea Urn can beautifully sit on display during a ceremony. The bowl has an additive that is 100% biodegradable and allows it to be buoyant in water so it can float briefly before gradually descending. To achieve Optimum float time: gently shake urn back and forth to evenly distribute the weight as it may have settled unevenly during transportation. Gently place in water with 2 hands, allowing only the bowl to touch the water. The float time varies, depending on amount of ashes and water condition. Depending on water condition, it can float anywhere from about 30 seconds (rough water) to over 3 minutes (calm water). Adds a beautiful affect to photographs at a funeral ceremony. The urn can be used for ground burial as well. Given its handcrafted nature, the urn may vary slightly in size, shape, and appearance from the image displayed. Includes urn, glue, clips, biodegradable bag, instructions. This urn is part of the Favorite Place burial series. Clay and Cotton based, Made in the USA.

Follow instructions to the letter and distribute weight evenly
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This was the PERFECT urn to fulfill my grandfather's wishes of a burial at sea. I followed the instructions to the letter (which is really easy) and couldn't have pictured a better way to let him go. You have to make sure you use all the glue provided and evenly distribute the weight of the ashes. We had the urn lowered into the water from the bow of the boat and it floated for a good 10-12 minutes before peacefully sinking under leaving just the wreath we placed on top floating in the water. Im so glad I found this. Im putting pictures with this review so you can see the process and the end result.

Beautiful Memorial
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. We had to order 3 of these for our family members and dogs who died in an accident- we got one The Lily, one Lily and Peace, and one Burgundy Lily (this one was more light green than yellow, as I'd expected by the picture, but still really pretty and not as green as The Lily). They were beautiful. Filling the inside bag with the ashes was a little bit tricky, but otherwise it worked out well. We put one person and one dog in two of them, then just the 3rd person alone in the 3rd one. We were worried that with the extra weight, they might sink like a rock, but they did not. The water had a little movement, and I think they would have floated longer if it were GLASS or completely still, but they still all floated a bit before sinking and or breaking apart as they were sinking. Here is a video of one of them (this was "Burgundy Lily") with the million sparkles on the water - it really was beautiful and peaceful way to do this.

It was perfect
This urn was very pretty and floated for a couple of minutes just as we had hoped. The funeral home took care of placing the ashes inside and glueing it shut so I can't speak to that part but seems they had no issue with cremains for a 160lb adult. The only note is that the funeral home advised that since the urn is biodegradable, it is important to take the remains out to sea within 2 weeks of placing them in the urn. I did not know that part so we had a bit of a scramble to get everything scheduled but it all turned out beautifully.

Sank
This urn did not float, it sank the second it touched the water and was a huge disappointment. My Grandmother was in there and the whole point of buying this urn was to watch it in the water and have a couple moments to let go as it slowly went under. We followed the instructions 100% and are absolutely devastated by this products ability to live up to it's promise. We should have just scattered the ashes and skipped this urn!

Worth it!
Perfect! Just what my father wanted. I can't tell you how amazing this urn was. It was absolutely the right choice. We chose this urn because we read about horror stories when scattering ashes and we didn't want to come in contact with them. The price was the same as most of the options at the mortuary. This urn float for just about 1 minute and then sank. We threw flowers and it was just beautiful. We took it to the mortuary and they had no problem following the directions. At first we worried about taking off the clips that hold the top in place but they are to set the glue and I had no problems carrying it. The top did not come off. When we were ready we just popped the clips off, the crew opened the entrance door and I layed on the deck to gently lay it on a wave. Beautiful experience!

Gorgeous urn!
This Lily at Peace urn is really beautiful. This is the way to go for scattering ashes in water. It’s a very peaceful and memorable way. We followed the instructions carefully for placing the ashes inside and prepared the urn the night before. We had a float time in excess of 15 minutes. Can’t recommend this item enough! We placed flowers on top of the urn and it was really stunning to have the flowers begin floating around the urn.

A wonderful way to say goodbye.
There was nothing to dislike about this biodegradable Urn. This was a wonderful way to say goodbye to my father. This is where he wanted to be. It was almost to good and we were worried it wasn’t going to sink in which we were all able to laugh saying dad wasn’t quite ready to go down with the ship yet. He stayed afloat for almost 8 minutes before it settled below the waves. It was really wonderful. For those who had trouble with it you need to follow the instructions. I made sure the seam was glued water tight all the way around, which is why it probably stayed afloat for so long. I highly recommend this.

A Stunning Memorial
This stunning Peace Lilly biodegradable urn is just that-stunning!It arrived in perfect condition due to the expert packaging, the instructions for transferring the cremains was helpful and very detailed. The presentation at the Memorial service and Mass were beautiful. The at sea release was so peaceful. The urn remained floating for about 3-4 minutes as the sailboat circled and then quietly and slowly began to submerge. As you can see from the photos we opted to lay some of our cut roses on top. Just beautiful and very peaceful. We recieved many comments on how beautiful the Peace Lilly urn was and what a wonderful way to release the cremains.

Even more beautiful than the picture
I ordered this for myself. When I opened it, it was a piece of art. Absolutely gorgeous. I have shown this piece off to many friends an family. My only concern, and I could be completely wrong - is the bowl in the middle big enough for all of the remains? I will have to ask an expert.
