Great Resource for the Novice or the Experienced!
This is a delightful read covering every conceivable area of Poodle ownership. The information is clear, concise and digestible - more so than most "user manuals." I particularly like the "tips" that appear from start to finish. We have owned Standards for many years and yet I found myself learning so much in the course of this book. I particularly enjoyed the behavior/training section and caring for an senior poodle . Having purchased a female puppy from one of the interviewed resources (Karen Frisque of Wisconsin), I am appreciative of the time and energy that is put into breeding the best quality and temperament in these dogs. I think this book, more than any other Poodle book I've read, encompasses the totality of owning this breed. If you own a Poodle, or are considering getting one, this book should be on your shelf. It's THAT good!

Packed for of awesome information
If you're looking to buy or are just interested in poodles, this book is great. It contains all the resources needed to help you get a good quality poodle and how to care for them. The book surpassed my expectations with the information given and how it was laid out. I learn something new everytime I review a different chapter. This is a must read for any poodle enthusiast or any person new to poodles, that is thinking about purchasing one.

Bought five of these!
Bought five of these because we had some new additions to the family that we were re-homing. I handed this book out with all of our new puppies and every family truly appreciate it. I took a look at the book of course before handing it out and it did cover all of the very important aspects of having a new puppy and especially the specialness of having a poodle!

I've had poodles 50 years & still learned more from this book.
Thorough, yet easy to read, an excellent resource! Great tips on dental health & brushing. Good advice on rescue & senior care.

User friendly and reads like a novel!
Enjoyable read and thorough breed book. It’s personable and loaded with information you don’t always find in a breed handbook. This would be great for people that already have Poodles as well as those looking to start their lives with one! The international touch is nice too, poodle people everywhere should have this in their library.

descriptive and imformative
I was looking to get a miniature poodle, so I decided to get this book. It was helpful because I was wondering where to get one from. It speaks about, illnesses, training, breeding, and history. It had small sections of other topics and a really good section on poodle temperament. My only critique is the chapter on common poodle diseases, it was undeniably too long, subtracting a star from my review. I would've liked to have a longer chapter on grooming and training. Overall, after reading The Poodle Handbook, I think I am prepared to have a poodle. They are very smart!

If you already have or are planning to get a poodle- you need this book!
A very well written, informative book for those who have poodles already or those considering the breed.Covers pretty much everything and as a poodle owner, I agree with almost all of the information given and have learnt some new things too.I personally wouldn't give apoquel to my dogs for allergies as it has more recently been discovered that it causes certain cancers but the product was only mentioned as the author found it worked well for her dog and at the time of writing may have been unaware of the recent health risks linked to it.I enjoyed the diet section and was happy to see raw food included.I also think that the poodle character was described beautifully and would give potential owners a clear idea of what to expect.Poodles are not for everyone as they are very sweet but also sensitive and are extremely high maintenance due to their coats but this book also covers all of that.I will be recommending this book to everyone I know that has a poodle/poodles and to those that are considering getting one.5 star rating for a book that is well written, in depth and very informative!!

Invaluable resource for any Poodle owner!
I have only recently come across poodles - my, now 7 month old, toy poodle pup being the extremely serendipitous result of a search for an entirely different breed! I have only had this book for a few days but have found it extremely informative, well written and, obviously, hugely well researched. I have been lucky enough to have dogs all of my life and had rather thought that bringing up a poodle pup would be a similar experience to my other pups! How wrong could I have been! I now realise that I was not at all ready for the level of intelligence, sensitivity and incredibly loving nature of my little man - all, I now realise, typical of poodles!I was extremely lucky with the breeder my pup came from but I think that, had I had this book from the start, my poor breeder would not have been so inundated with my constant queries! The book covers every question I have had and will, I am confident, be able to help me with as my pup grows to maturity and settles himself into my little 'pack'! I cannot see it leaving my coffee table for the foreseeable future and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering embarking on the joyous journey of poodle ownership!

Fully comprehensive & informative read
I did not purchase this book because I have a poodle, nor did I have any intention of owning a poodle. I have just started my own business in dog grooming & wanted an insight into the breeds I was not familiar with to get a better understanding into the poodles temprement, their coat types, the grooming styles & general care of their coats, also any possible health issues that I may need to be aware of in carrying out a groom on this specific breed. I was very impressed with the information in this book & the full comprehensive information not only from the author Linda Whitwam but also from other poodle specialists who supplied their own experiences & knowledge of all 3 types of poodles. On completion of this book I have to admit it has converted me into a poodle fan, I would certainly consider owning one myself in the future. To sum up what I have learnt about the poodle "sensitive, obedient, beautiful & complex." Thanks Linda for a very captivating & informative read!

Brilliant first time owner manual
I have just got my first puppy, a toy poodle. This book has got lots of information and tips, written very clearly and easy to understand. It covers all ages from puppy to old age and any topic you can think of to help bring up a well behaved and healthy dog. I have already picked up some great tips for my puppy Maple!

Personally, I'm a cat person, but ...
... my lovely neighbour rescued an adult 'toy' poodle last year , a complex and lively dog to understand, so I bought them this book as a Christmas gift after a lot of research to pick a book which was poodle specific, but neither too whimsical or overly photo heavy. This volume has a good ratio of information to illustration, and is on decent quality paper, altho' I wish it had hard covers, the soft ones suffered a little in the delivery process. However, the recipient was very happy , telling me they randomly opened it a few times and read whatever page they hit on, each time finding information which was relevant and useful.
