I was reading:
The first few pages of this and practically laughed my arse off just within the first few pages and I seriously think that this should be turned into a serious but comical movie and if it was or is I'd just love to get involved with it and turn the process into reality. There is some very funny stuff that could be turned into comical scenes in this book.

listening to the beat of your own drum
Michael Largo has profiled the eternal search for something, or someone to believe in a fascinating, hard to put down book. You will begin to wonder just who is out of step, these people marching to a drummer only they can hear, or the rest of us. This was the first Michael Largo book I read, and I have since gotten all of them. In his subsequent books he makes statistics, and a-z, fun.

Something for Everyone
At the used book price, it's a buy. There is some kind of factoid, for every persuasion, on at least every other page. I used this book for bathroom reading since the blurbs are mostly short and the unglazed paper quality is high. The book's presentation of bits and bytes is somewhat chaotic to the text book crowd, but the unevenness keeps the dedicated reader on track and alert. I'm guessing, based on my own knowledge of the various subject matters, that most of the book's "errors" are minor and inconsequential in the long run. One example is that Jehovah's Witnesses frown on the use of aluminum cookware. Well they don't, but there was an article in one of their frequent tracts (Awake) that did call attention to the fact that researchers some time ago thought that there might be a link between cooking in aluminum pots and Alzheimer's Disease. This research theory has long been discarded by the CDC and others. I'm a practicing Roman Catholic and I was not even slightly offended by the crazy catholic saints old-time stunts. Mental health was not understood in the olden days, and any religious activity of the sort described in the book would, today, wind the active participant up in a three day mental assessment facility at the least; probably a little AC/DC and a pail of lithium to boot. The book is a lot of off beat history, and "Oh yea, I remember that"s, and is recommended by me as short, in interval, and sweet reading materiel.

A Sobering Reminder about Religious Zealotry
Great bathroom reading thanks to the engaging content and A-Z encyclopedia style. And a good reminder to us religious folks to be careful with our zealotry and religious enthusiasm - it can get a little out of hand, as history shows.

Bathroom reading exclusively
So, this book is entertaining and cover a wide breadth of subjects but it has some pretty major issues concerning accuracy of information and the way he presents his subjects. His treatment of the "West Memphis Three" incident seemed particularly poor in that regard. He mentions none of the controversy surrounding the case (a glaring omission considering how central to that story doubt has become). Instead, he chooses to amplify shock factor through means of reduction; all three young men are presented as confirmed satanists who were rightly convicted.Blugh.

Love it
I love this book. I had a friend who was reading it and I would read it at his house when I went over. I finally gave in and got the book for myself. It's very interesting, and the dealer I got it from had it in perfect condition. For anyone who loves the weird and reading about it i recommend this book!!!

Fun Bathroom Read
As my title says, it is a good bathroom read. Short pieces that are informative. I do think there are some minor inaccuracies, but it is not a fatal flaw. I think he was actually a bit conservative in his depiction of some characters. Many in the book deserve far harsher treatment than he gave them.Dr. Darrel W. gods lunatics
an aptly named book if I ever read one,the absurd and dangerous lengths people and organisations will go toin the name of their god know no limits. It is scary how little mankind has moved on since the dark ages.this book should be compulsory reading for all people of "faith".

nice, but unreliable
As others already mentioned: the book is full of grave errors. It's really nice, well illustrated, fun to read, but biased. When information a reader is familiar with is seriously wrong, in my mind there's a lot of doubt about the reliability of the rest. The writer simply didn't do his homework, and is more concerned with a popular presentation than with truth. So, when you are looking for reliable info, don't buy this book.
