Definitely Effective- A few flaws, but a great buy!
Following is my initial review, sadly it stopped being effective altogether at about one month in. -- We were at the end of our rope with our barky dog. We have tried a few things to correct the barking (Pet Corrector air canister, removing her to a small bathroom whenever she would bark, etc.), but we just weren't consistent enough to see results. We also have a newborn and a toddler, so often when the barking would happen we had our hands full. We bought this as a last resort before considering something like a bark collar (which we REALLY did not want to do!) Within an hour or two of setting this up, we basically had a whole new dog. I think she set it off maybe two times before she clearly "got it." She did come running up shaking and clearly startled by the tone (she does the same thing occasionally with the dishwasher, so while I felt bad it wasn't an out of the ordinary response for her.) This was a good reminder to give constant positive reinforcement whenever she doesn't bark when she otherwise would have, so we're sure to praise whenever people come to the door, whenever we come home, etc. This weekend, we had pizza delivered, multiple mailman/Amazon deliveries, several television shows with doorbells in them and all no barking. We are having some trouble figuring out the light scheme on the front, though. The manual says this indicates either that it's working, that it needs a new battery, or that it's sounding. We are trying to be sure we're putting it somewhere that only barking sets it off and not something like the baby crying, so it's not super helpful that the light could mean our battery is low or could mean or dog is getting blasted. It would be nice to know for sure which. Also, it does seem to chew through batteries, We've had to replace once already and now that new battery has the light flashing red, but I suspect we won't need to have this on all the time. Just maybe set it back up if the behaviour returns. I wish we'd gotten this years ago vs all the stress we've had.

It’s not foolproof but it works!
Like most dog training devices, you can’t just turn this on and expect it to do all the work. That being said, it has worked amazingly for us! Our 10m old puppy was getting in a bad habit of barking in her crate while my husband and I were working so I decided to give it a go. I placed it next to her crate and we happen to have a camera facing her crate so I can look back and see when it has given correction. The good: When it emits the sound the light flashes red so I kept an eye on it to see how it did when she barked and watched her response. It works perfectly, even sometimes when she is clear across the house in another room or outside. She responds by visibly flinching and immediately quiets down. I’d say within a day her bad barking habit was gone. The bad: it occasionally picks up aberrant noises as barking. Since I already knew her response when it goes off I noticed a few times her flinching when we were cleaning or I was playing piano loudly on low keys. Sure enough it had gone off inappropriately. So now if we’re doing something really loud or if I’m playing the piano I unplug the battery (it would be really nice if it had an off switch, but it doesn’t) to avoid her being inappropriately corrected. I imagine if I didn’t take the time to do this, and she was unfairly corrected, she would either stop responding or be a very unhappy pup!To sum up, I’m really pleased with this product. But you do have to put some work in. I hope nobody is torturing their dogs with it expecting it to be foolproof.

Would work best for a dog who barks in the same place
I bought this Indoor Bark Control trainer because my dogs have lately decided to bark and howl at random sounds late at night which isn't pleasant for my family or the neighbors. The actual sound emitted I can very faintly hear, which means I know when it is working but unlike my dogs it isn't uncomfortable for me. It is clear when the trainer emits the ultrasonic sound the dogs are affected and it so far has seemed to help curb the behavior. But the reason I gave it only three starts is because the detection of barking is very particular. I find the device doesn't work unless the dog is right next to it and barking. This means anytime they bark in another room or even just too far away from it, there is no correction of the behavior. I do like that there is a button you can manually push; I have begun just keeping it near me and setting it off when they bark. So overall I probably would look into a different product if they don't bark in the same spot or you do not want to manually correct your dogs behavior. But it does help get the job done.
