Update - Battery quit working/would not charge
Further update 12/27/2012: I actually got another one of these from a guy who no longer wanted his and was able to use that one to isolate my failure to the battery. (Unit did not work with bad battery even while charger was plugged in). I Also ordered a high capacity Lithium Ion battery pack on Ebay of the correct voltage, with matching charger, and wired it into the shell of the old battery after i cut it open. I now have a unit that runs several hours before recharge is needed. The hi cap battery pack will not fit inside the old battery shell so it will be clunky to carry around but i dont need to move around. Will hotglue it to the outside with some additional protection when i get time.Update 9/7/2012: YEP, ITS JUNK. I played with the unit at home, using it no more than 1hr, and it worked good. I charged the unit for several days and then used it out in the Gulf of Mexico on a boat and it worked great for about 1.5 hrs and then shut off, a little prematurely but i assume the battery was drained since the 3-segment indicator had gone down to two, then one bars. I plugged it in to charge and nothing happened except a quick flash of the battery charging indicator. If i turned it on FM and plugged it in, the blue display with the FM frequency flashed, then nothing. I left it charging for a day and it would not come on in any mode. I moved to another outlet thinking there could be a problem with the boat's power - same response. When i got home, it acted the same as on the boat - no workee. The return window for the place i ordered it was only about 2 weeks so its my junk. I took a gamble and once again reinforced that old saying, you get what you pay for. Item was sealed new in package when i got it.If you are expecting this to actually work for a while, dont buy it. If you are an electronics hobbyist and find one for $19.99 and want some parts to help you build your own Roady II "portableizer" then you can probably use the headphones with integral XM antenna and the connectors on this unit. Good Luck.Below is my original review without changes.Being kinda a cheapskate but wanting a portable XM solution, i took the plunge on this for $19.99. For that price, the item is a bargain toy. I only pay for one XM subscription and need to retain car/home capability. This item does that with my existing Roady II. Yes it is somewhat flimsy, including the funky joystick control. But I am careful with it - both in inserting/removing the XM and in actuating the control (I dont press too hard). I tested it outside on a walk around my neighborhood, and only had very brief and infrequent dropouts when walking in a certain direction and the southern sky view was blocked by some very tall pine trees. I do not live in a large city. Battery life seems to be less than a couple of hours and the battery may be weak due to long shelf storage. I may investigate building an auxiliary battery pack. Headphone sound quality is not great but acceptable given the quality of XM music i listen to. I was able to connect the headphone/antenna connector simultaneous with my Bose sound cancelling headphones and it worked great. I got it to take out in the Gulf of Mexico on my annual 4 day liveaboard dive trip and expect it to work fine while sitting out on the front of the boat. It will also be interesting to try and "dx FM" from the Dry Tortugas since it has an FM tuner.

Does a good job but does have a problem
I got mine on sale for about half-price so I have no complaints about the cost. It works very well and, for me at least, will even works indoors. The battery will work around four hours while listening to satellite broadcasts. I've not tried it just on FM. It's certainly not very heavy as some have claimed, at least in my opinion. The number one problem so far has been removing the Roady receiver after use. The fit is so tight that sometimes it takes all my strength to open the tray. However, I have discovered a solution to that. Get a very thin piece of metal, preferably very strong, such as a fingernail file. In the upper left-hand corner of the audio system the corner is curved. Very gently insert the piece of metal in this corner and very gently pry the radio to the right. You won't have to pry it very far either. So far I haven't damaged the receiver, so be sure and use a gentle touch. I've written Delphi and complained about this problem. They are aware of it, but haven't been able to figure a solution. They say the tight fit is required so the system will work properly.

Do Not Buy This!!
This thing is crap! Two units and 4 weeks later, so far. The first one they sent would not turn on the Roady receiver. The fm tuner worked but the satellite receiver will not turn on. They sent me a replacement and it has the same issue. Imagine that! Delphi can't even make a product that works at all. This is the only thing I could find that will allow me to use my Roady. My current vehicle does not have a tape player so I don't use it. I know you can use the FM Modulation but half the time you get some foreign radio station instead of the satellite music. I was excited to think I could use this system and be able to listen with my Roady. Too good to be true. Still waiting for return labels from the seller. Not sure when that will happen. Save you money and don't buy this. It does not work and is not woth the hassle of having to return it.

Great Product
I am very happy with this product. Allows me to use my Delphi car unit at the beach, pool, anywhere outside, without an expensive unit and additional monthly fee from XM Sirius. One word of caution: the side-mount volume control is not very solid and broke within 3 days of use. I needed a replacement. Now I know to be very gentle with it.

Poor design
The item works as described, the problem is the toggle switch, which has now snapped off. The customer service advises that if it isn't under warranty then they cannot repair it. Poor product support. Not worth the cost when you can't get it repaired if not under warranty.

Disappointed
Had to break it apart to get my receiver out. Very disappointed as I had hoped to use it for walking and use receiver in car. Serious flaw in design.
