It's Never Too Late to Sleep Train: The Low-Stress Way to High-Quality Sleep for Babies, Kids, and Parents

Excellent overview of numerous techniques
As a mental health provider who often sees parents and children affected by pediatric sleep issues and also as a father of young children including twins, I have read or listened to several books on sleep training.I think this book (which I listened to through Audible) is a really helpful overview of numerous techniques spanning a spectrum (generally ranging from faster but potentially harder on parents to slower but "gentler"). One Amazon reviewer said that this book was just about the "cry it out" method and that the author bragged about his child crying for hours and didn't care if your child threw up, etc. I believe that description is entirely inaccurate... It seems as though that reviewer read three pages of the book and then reinterpreted the material it for her review based on her aversion to that technique since many other things were discussed in the book (and that was also an unfair and inaccurate summary). In fact, the strength of this book is all the different areas he touches on including different techniques AND their pros and cons. The problem with, for example, the book by Dr. Weissbluth is that it is infamously very long and repetitive and, of course, is mainly just discussing his method. In this book, you have fairly concise treatments of Weissbluth, Ferber, and other options.I wish he didn't feel the need to jokingly swear a few times (and he is occasionally a bit sarcastic) which may be off-putting to some parents, especially if they are sleep-deprived, but all in all I think it's very good and will recommend it to my clients.

Life changing
I've been using Amazon consistently for almost 10 years and have never written a review before this one. That should give you an idea of how excited I am about this book. My 3-year-old has never been a good sleeper. I've never felt comfortable with the idea of "cry it out," so I resigned myself to spending every single night rocking her to sleep, sometimes for hours. My husband and I would also wake up to her crying at least once a night.Tonight, one week after reading this book and implementing some of its tactics along the way, I just put my daughter into her bed, said goodnight, and left the room. I watched the monitor and was amazed to see her quietly fall asleep on her own, for the first time ever. I honestly couldn't imagine when this day would come, and I am so thankful to Dr. Canapari. Here are some specific things I liked about this book:-Easy to read and extremely informative. I've read Ferber's "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems," among others, and found this book to be particularly user-friendly and concise.-It provides tactics to use for kids of all ages, as well as kids who have autism or other developmental disorders.-It includes findings from the latest sleep-related studies.-It is optimistic, non-judgmental, and relatable. I was immediately sold when, in the first quarter of the book, Dr. Canapari accurately described each issue we have been dealing with in a very understanding way. Soon after, he provided a variety of concrete, actionable tactics to solve these issues. I liked that he also talks about his own foibles when it comes to sleep training his children. In general, he comes across as non-pretentious and eager to help.I think that this book will become a staple for sleep-deprived parents, and I will certainly recommend it to anyone I can.

This is THE sleep book for parents of kids 4-6 months to 6+ years old
I’m a pediatrician and a dad to four flavorful kids who have schooled me in most of the ways sleep can go sideways.I am so happy this book exists! On a personal note, I do go way back with the author and have really appreciated his generous online pediatric sleep presence over the past years (as well as hilarious stories about his two boys). On a professional note, I have been waiting for a book like this my whole pediatric career. I have many sleep books in my collection but this is my new favorite. Here’s why you want this book:Dr. Canapari keeps it real: he knows you may be beyond tired, stressed, and feeling guilty about having “ruined” your child’s sleep, attachment, and future (you haven’t). You will appreciate the glimpses you get into various Canapari misadventures along they way, and will not get shamed into doing it “his way.”His advice is clear, funny, actionable, and yet flexible enough to work in various modern family configurations and parenting philosophies (this is NOT just a cry-it-out book). Many sleep books are about helping infants sleep independently. This book does that well, but more importantly covers up through school age for families who need help outside of infancy. Dr. Canapari has a greatest hits of evidence- and experience-based sleep techniques for older kids up in here. This book is well-structured and just the right length. There are parts you can skip but Dr. Canapari is clear about the parts you shouldn’t. When it comes to the action plan there is often more than one option, and they are laid out in ways that are easy to understand and actually use when you are in zombie mode.Dr. Canapari is Director of the Yale Pediatric Sleep Center and the most online accessible sleep doc I know. He has seen and heard all the ways these action plans go subtly or spectacularly wrong, so he has a lot of solid gold advice about how to help families succeed at sleep, even and especially when they have failed in the past.As a pediatrician I can relate that the advice you give and and life you live don’t always match up. This book gets that. This guy is a world class pediatric sleep expert who is also living this parenting life with two spicy young guys. I think you will find it relatable and very very helpful. So yes, I’m a super-fan — of Dr. Canapari, his family, and his fantastic new sleep book.

Only for bedtime training, not night waking.
This book is helpful in explaining sleep cycles for both infants and children but most information restates in multiple ways the same information already understood: bedtime routines, consistency, wind down, no screens etc.I had hoped for support in minimizing night waking but was disappointed to not find much support in this area.

Great book for tired parents
I swear by this book and have lent it to many friends also struggling with babies sleep, it feels modern and empathetic. It talks all about how sleep habits are formed and how to make changes to fine tune bedtime. It also includes sleep training methods, although as mentioned at the beginning of this book I didn’t need to use these methods after assessing our bedtime routine and the habits.

Good Book
Good book, an easy read with a lot of useful and interesting information, not much in terms of fillers - all of which is very helpful when having to read a book while juggling an infant.
