Covers some basic Irish dance steps
I'm familiar with a few tap dance steps, but know nothing about Irish dance so I was looking for a basic Irish Dance instruction DVD, but there weren't many choices other than entertainment DVDs such as Riverdance or set dancing. The Celtic Feet dvd was interesting and although Colin goes over the steps step-by-step, it's not a typical instructional DVD and you'll need to do quite a bit of rewinding/rewatching if you want to learn the steps. Colin is up on a small stage and explains the dance steps to an audience seated at small tables surrounding the stage. He goes over the steps to two soft-shoe dances, and two hard-shoe dances. After he finishes explaining the steps, Colin and the Celtic Feet dancers perform the dances. I paid $8 plus $4 shipping ,and picked up a few pointers. so it was worth the price. The DVD was only available from sellers in England, and although it took a few weeks to get here (East Coast), the DVD arrived in new condition. The back cover lists the region as 0 which I'm guessing is Region-free, and it played on my Windows 7 PC, as well as my older Sony DVD player.

The winningest Champion so far...
Most will remember Colin Dunne from Riverdance: NYC. What more can be said about a man that has won 11 All-Ireland and 9 World championships??? (Eat your heart out Michael Flatley!) This man is the most elegant and beautiful Irish dancer recorded thus far. If you'd like to learn from the best, and witness this incredible talent at his peak, buy this video! I would also recommend, of course, Riverdance: NYC, and Dancing On Dangerous Ground, co-starring the always fantastic Jean Butler,The dances on this video are relatively simple for a beginner and really fun to learn. I use them to work out! You'd be surprised how quickly you get your heartrate up by doing them. Lots of fun!!

DVD does not work!
DVD did not work. I did not open it until January 2017, after the return deadline. Very disappointed. Really wish there was a way to give no stars, too...

Grear Irish dance video for the beginner
For someone who has never danced and wants to learn Irish Dance this is an outstanding video. Each movement of each step is done at a slow pace and then in a group at the regular speed. The only fault with the video itself is that you can not replay the steps over and over. But that aside, the DVD is an inexpensive way to learn basic Irish dance steps.

irish dancing
It was very entertaining. I enjoyed it, but, it was a little hard to teach to my students. I think they need a lot more practice before they really understand it. I'll keep trying. Thanks,

A great video with a lot of information
If you've ever bought an instructional video and felt cheated that you paid a lot for very little information, you won't have that complaint with this one. Some of the reviewers of this video complain that it goes too fast, but that's why we have pause buttons on our VCRs! Each 5 minutes of this video will take a beginner one month to master, but each of the steps is done sufficiently slowly to allow it to be diagramed and repeated. You will spend 6 months to one year on this one-hour video if you are serious. I highly recommend it.

Products states all regions...doesn't work in region 1.
I've ordered, then ordered a replacement. Neither play in either of my DVD players here in WI. My dvd players work just fine for every other dvd I put in them. Returning this second one too.

Colin Dunne's Celtic Feet (Molly's two very Celtic and very left feet)
Yes - I was thrown out of ballet classes at the age of 9 because I (unintentionally) made the other girls laugh. No - I am not in the first flush of youth (soon to be a grandmother), but I love Irish music and dance and would like to know the basics in order to have fun and keep fit. Colin Dunne is very good at what he does ("look mother, I'm skipping") but I didn't find his personality very engaging (possibly due to nerves), and it took a good deal of rewinding to fully understand the moves. Although this was by no means as baffling and elitist as Jean Butler's Master-Class, it still took an awful lot of getting used to. If this was just an old-fashioned VHS I could forgive its lack of navigability; but the DVD format makes it ideal for an 'update'.Ideally there would be a more advanced menu with repeatable sections, freeing users from having to constantly hit the rewind button whilst wobbling across the floor.I also found the inclusion of a live audience quite distracting, rendering it a performance, rather than a serious guide to the steps and (for me) it further diminished the notion that this was a dancing lesson. This was filmed a very long time ago and in the first flush of Riverdance mania. Colin has since achieved a Masters' degree in dance - so I'm sure he would use a different approach if he were making the video in 2009. At the top of my list would be for Colin to be filmed from both front and back - so it could be viewed in split-screen format. Having two very Celtic - but very left feet;I think that the steps could then be more easily copied from the student/ viewer's vantage point.Maoliosa Bond has produced a Beginners' Irish Dance DVD for children - and although this is also fairly dated, she does have the sense to show how the steps look from the back and front; demonstrating footwork slowly and repeatedly before moving on to the next. In contrast (and rather like my old maths teacher), Colin tends to rush on to the second part of the lesson before the first part has been fully absorbed. If you are truly despairing of ever understanding the basics, I cannot recommend the old faithful VHS Child of the Dance too highly. Although it is of the same vintage as Colin's offering; the very un-starry (yet excellent) teacher Conor O'Donnell's enthusiasm and patience is a complete joy. If it were to be transferred to DVD and given a menu, it would be a sure-fire hit. Fortunately for us despairing 'diddly-i' dancers; Conor has masterminded a new DVD for adults. It is called Traditional Irish Dancing and (sorry Colin) I await it with great excitement, knowing that it will be perfectly clear and thoroughly enjoyable.

Celtic Feet DVD
I was very impressed with said DVD, which gives a good insight to the basic steps of Irish dancing. BUT, what really annoyed me, was that in the Product Details it states that the Run Time is: 250 mins!!! which in fact is totally wrong, as its barley 1 hour long. So i am at a loss as to why it states this, and so was expecting more time and dance moves/steps/routines. It is VERY MISLEADING and should be brought to AMAZON'S attention. This is why i gave said DVD a four star---but, -- it in no way reflects on the performance/quality of the DVD. Colin gives good clear instruction. My only wish is that it was done in a split screen, so that we could see the steps from behind on one side of the screen, and in front on the other side of the screen, and then full screen for the complete dance to the music in real time. Most helpful to people who don't/cant dance in front of mirrors. All in all i highly recommend this learning DVD so you can learn the steps at your leisure at home, or indeed along side any classes you may be partaking in already.

Fun Irish Dancing with dance routines.
This was an item I did receive. It is a very good instructional irish dancing DVD, it shows clear and concisely the steps and some more challenging routines. It does assume some previous dance experience. Overall is a good product.
