LeylandTrade Alkali Resisting Wall Primer - White 5L

used this to sort out a very bad case of wall odour phenomenon caused by emulsion paint (Valspar/Crown emulsion). This has worked very well and two coats seems to have eleiminated the nasty 'cat wee' or 'bad cabbage' smell albeit with a short term strong solvent smell. Have not done top coat yet as I wanted to be sure it worked. Only down side is poor packaging from seller that only just survived the journey. Also get some heavy duty solvent based paint cleaner as this stuff will not be shifted with soapy water. Just chuck out the roller.

Did the job perfectly but make sure you keep the room well ventilated during application.

Leyland alkali resisting primer is the best paint which I have found for priming walls following removal of wallpaper prior to using emulsion paint. It can be applied either by brush or roller and it prevents any residual wallpaper paste causing blistering of the newly applied emulsion paint. It is easy to apply but you do need to wear a mask as the paint is very pungent. It is also markedly irritant to the eyes but keeping the room well ventilated does help.

This 5L tin of primer costing nearly £50 was delivered today. The cardboard box outer packaging was undamaged but when I opened the box the tin had three significant dents in it, which suggest that the tin was packed like this off the production line. Not a good presentation of a product that was so eye-wateringly expensive. It had better do what it says in the tin or another review will follow. Not good enough!

I am a landlord with tenants that are heavy smokers and usually the nicotine bleeds through the emulsion therefore requiring three or four coats. Not with this though. Someone recommended it to me and I didn't have anything to lose so took the plunge and I'm so glad I did.
