Seastar Solutions No Feedback Safe-T II Rotary Mechanical Steering Helm SH5150P

Holy crap! My steering went out on me, while I was cruising through the channel. I made it back to birth, by going slowly, but it was scary. My old helm was a standard rotary helm, and with a 150 hp merc pro xs, it was a workout, keeping the wheel straight. Anyway... I purchased this on sunday, and it was on my front step by Wednesday! Took a sh*tload of tools down to the dock with me today, because I knew it was going to be an SOB to install. It's a no feedback, replacing a standard 1979 helm. Popped off the cable, unwound it, popped off the wheel, pulled out the old helm, put the new helm in, put the wheel back on, rewound the cable... BOOM! we were cruising within 15 minutes!! I HONESTLY COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW EASY THIS THING WENT ON! and I was weirded out at first because I'm so used to fighting the wheel. It felt weird that it wasn't forcing itself to the right. I let go of the wheel, and I was ecstatic! This is an excellent product. I was going to put hydraulic steering on next year, but you know what? I'm not going to bother now :) could not be happier! Just make sure you pay attention to steering wheel placement, before starting to wind the cable back it. The instructions show a pic :) happy boating my friends!

It took a bit of figuring, fennagling, and coaxing but once installed, it works exactly as advertised. No more spinning full starboard when the steering wheel is released. \O/ ANAND turning the wheel seems as easy as it was without the cluch! If you want no feedback without having to shell out for and install hydraulics, then this it! Works perfectly on my '75 Aquasport 170 & it's Yamaha 115.Revision: Ok I tested steering on the trailer and steering was easy as b4 NFB. I wasn't able to move the engine by hand, I moved the boat on the trailer but engine heading, relative to the boat would not budge. On the water steering was tighter by a bit depending on torque output of the engine, but the VAST improvement in the boat holding course when I let go of the wheel is WELL worth the small amount of work required to change course. It just means the guns (massive arms) get a bit more workout. :-) Now I can attend to something that needs two hands while under way! Awesome

Helm had no key way and no helm nut for steering wheel

Too early to say for 5 stars, but pretty easy install on my 17' Key West boat, and happy with performance so far. Instructions say when feeding the cable in to keep turning wheel until you turn past the "click" (which means you locked the cable in). Took me awhile to figure out you have to turn the wheel pretty hard past the stop to get it to click in. I was afraid I would break something, but that did the trick and it works fine. Other thing was that my old helm had a tilt wheel setup, so my new bezel would not fit or seal properly. I ended up ordering the proper bezel for this helm, job done.

Easy to install but was a little different size from my non feedback and had to flip the bracket bolts the other way from the inside out to let the helm have enough clearance. Works like it should. Would recommend!

It works fine but unless u already have this exact model u gotta buy a separate mount so they get u for another 40 dollars no wonder everyone going to hydraulic its better an they don't screw u at least u could tell people they need a mounting kit !!!!!!!!

Solved my problems with my boat pulling severely to the right. I really felt that my boat was unsafe to operate due to hard pull to the right. This product fixed the problem perfectly!!!
