Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

Awesome Watch
It's been a few years since I bought this watch and it works like a charm, the glass is very durable and scratch resistant, besides the strip is awesome and cool looking.

poorly crafted
After about a month of normal wear, I went to check the time and noticed the watch had stopped. I went to change the time, and I noticed the little nob you pull out to do it was missing. Which is why the watch stopped.I can't imagine that I did anything to it that wouldn't normally be done, so I'd say it's just not very durable.

Broke while I slept!!! 3mths old.
This watch was great, Until, one morning after waking up in my tent I noticed the adjustment knob was missing...I looked around and found that it had broken off while I slept. I've had $20 watches last long, what a shame as I really enjoyed the watch for the whole 3 months I owned it.

Great watch so far!
2 mo.s in and it's working great!! I really love being able to see the tide status with just a glance. As a sailor, that alone makes it worth it. The compass is awesome, and I really like the look and feel. This is a serious multi-tool type watch, and I hope to have it on my wrist for many years to come.

Awesome style - Useless design, garbage mechanical quality
I have never had a watch where I have recieved so many compliments.People have come right out and said "that watch is awesome" or "that thing must have been expensive" but truth be told neither is true.I do love the design and, as vein as it may be, that's why I bought the watch. The mechanics on the other hand are laughable. The compass broke about 3 months after purchase. Now north is always within 2 or 3 degrees in whatever direction the watch is facing. The Thermometer, which is not thermally protected from your body heat measures a combination of that and the air temperature. Being that it is surrounded in a steel watch case it will measure the air temperature if you leave it off for 30 pluss minutes. The Tidal Tracking function is fine, but of course need to be constantly adjusted or the accurancy quickly diminishes. In the end it is a great looking, perfectly function watch... not a compass, nor a thermometer, nor a tidal tracker.

Timez T49709 Review
This is a great watch for the price. It has a large face and the indiglo works adequately in low light situations. The compass and tide functions work perfectly after calibrations. I saw this watch with the plastic band and found it too flimsy for my taste and decided to go with the black metal one which I found to be very comfortable and sturdy. Adjustment of the metal band took a little time since you need the proper size (jeweler's) screwdrivers (2) or take it to a watchmaker to adjust it to your wrist. Overall I am very satisfied with this watch and great looks. Super fast delivery from Amazon.com as well.

great watch and very good looking
I'm from Holland and I first want to pay my compliments to Amazon.com! what a great service and the Items were sent to me within 3 days. very impressive. The watch is a very cool looking sports watch. It is a little pretty heavy, but that also makes it look cool. The band is also very cool looking. All in all a very good looking watch for a pretty good price.I can recommend this watch to everybody!

Fantastic Watch
This watch was everything I was hoping it would be when I first spotted it online. Manly, sporty, rugged and loaded with a ton of functional features for those who truly love the outdoors. I am wearing this more than my Oakley watch, which I still love and paid a ton for, but am really enjoying this watch.

great chunky and functional
Brought this watch in 2010 and its never missed a beat, but now 5 years on needs a new battery. I must say it keeps very good time, tide clock works but needs to be adjusted every couple of months, I expect this is to do with various tide heights. Compass works ok but can be influenced by large metal objects nearby, its best to calibrate it where you will use it. Its been in the sea and pools and gets worn in the shower once a month to keep it clean. The temperature function works well but will only give body temp if being worn, ideal for testing babies bath water! I thought the black anodising would wear off but it still looks good the only place its wearing is on the crown and the clasp is wearing a bit thin. the crystal has not got any marks at all. Very pleased with it, new battery fitted for £7.50

Expedition restricted to daylight hours only
Interesting watch - for the size of the face - declinations and number markings are too small which make deciphering information other than time - difficult. Tide table utility totally bamboozling - in short useless. Compass - relatively accurate but instructions on set up are way too complex. The night time neon facility - whatever its called is absolutely useless - hence the title. However its a big one and for old buggers like me who now require a clock strapped to the wrist to be able to tell the time due to failing eye sight, this is the one - except its heavy - and getting a cup of tea from the table to the lips using the hand to which the watch is attached requires additional training. Its back to Rotary for me!
