Haven't tried...but hope to never need this
I really don't like reviews from people that haven't actually tried the product they've purchased...but this is one of those items that you don't just break out and test for the heck of it. If you want to see how well this works, there are a ton of videos on Youtube. Have at it...I saw these the last time I was at REI, but knew Amazon would have the best price. When it comes to keeping some survival bags in your car, these are hard to beat. Why keep a bulky sleeping bag in the trunk when you can stuff one of these in a nook and forget about it. The green wrapper makes these things look like a giant sushi roll, but they're actually about the size of two large burritos.Glad to have found these, but I hope I never need them. Overall it looks like a great product, but I won't give a 5-star rating to something I haven't used.

survival brick
This is a brick-hard, vacuum- packed casualty bag intended for a combat medic or SAR responder. It took me at least fifteen minutes to open it, and with partial damage. Instructions say to give it a little time to self-expand in order to create an insulative effect.. It is thin, laminated and perforated, and seems more breathable than most foil emergency sheets. It does not re-pack it to its original size, and re-use does not seem practical once deployed. It has adhesive peel strips to create a bag. Compared to typical foil sheets, this may be a superior survival aid, providing you don't mind carrying a brick, and you can manage to pry the damn thing open in say, a biting wind or bloody accident. I find the laminated type, 5x7 Space Blanket with grommeted corners much more useful, and in fact, ordered this weird thing by mistake. Oh well.

Lot of blanket in that little brick
I've owned a couple of these for while. I could not stand it any more. I ripped one open to see what it really was and I have to say, I'm impressed. This is not your Walmart emergency blanket. There is no comparing this thing to a little pocket emergency blanket. First, it is big. This thing is like 7'x8' when it is opened. It is not a single sheet. I guess you would call it cellulous. It is layers with space between them. Excellent insulation. It is tough. I tried to rip it. I did not succeed. I'm sure enough abuse it could be done, but not easily. Green on one side and reflective on the other.I do not know how they packed this thing into that brick, but there is no way it is ever going back. Never was meant to. It can still be reused. just won't pack as small as it was originally.

Best thermal reflective blanket.
These are the best thermal reflective blankets around albeit a tad bit heavier than the original rescue blankets. Tougher than the thin Mylar space blankets so these can be reused. They are in each car and disaster bag.

I can't give this a 5 star because I have been lucky enough not to have to actually use it
