Workable replacement for tank hinge
I won't grade this product down because of Volvos incredibly flawed design of the gas tank door hinge. This is a direct replacement and it works. It's hard to install because of Volvos flawed design but read the other comments for installation tips. These tips were helpful. My only other tip from experience is that the little plastic tabs are easy to drop and lose. Maybe do the installation in a well lit area with some white paper or towels on the ground around your work area for when you inevitably drop one of the tiny plastic tabs. Also to note, I tried another brand first and it was horrible. It broke into 3 pieces trying to install it. Pay the extra few bucks and get this one. It will work but make sure you are careful and take your time, review others install tips etc. Good luck.

Pins Failed during installation
This design by Dorman may actually match the original design of the fuel door hinge by Volvo. So, maybe Dorman is not to blame for this issue as much as Volvo is.The intent is that the hinge is mounted using 4 plastic expanders that work similarly to a dry wall anchor. Molded to the outside of the hinge, opposite the expanders, are 4 approximately 1/8" pins. It appears the theory is that you simply use a 1/8" punch and tap the pins through till they are flush, causing the expanders to expand. In my case, only 1 of the 4 pins properly disconnected from their molded position and went through the other side to cause expansion. The other 3 pins broke on the outside, leaving no hole or only a partial hole. In addition, on my own fault, I dropped one of the pins that broke and could not find it.In order to salvage the situation, here is what I did. I attempted to find an alternate source for the pins, something about 1/8". My first thought was that a toothpick might be about the right diameter. I pushed a toothpick through one of the holes but it really didn't seem like the expander expanded, plus, long term, I would have been concerned that the toothpick would rot. I then found some stiff wire I had laying around that was not 1/8 (ie .125"), but it was .10". I experimented and found that it did successfully expand the expander. So, I cut 4 pieces of wire at about 1/2" each. I had to drill out a couple of the holes. Then, upon mounting, I used just a little RTV on the back side of the hinge in hopes of providing just a little more support. Finally, after pushing the pins in about 1/2 way, I coated the very ends with just a small amount of JB Weld since I was concerned the pins might be looser than a snug press fit since I felt the diameter of my homemade pins were slightly smaller. Then, I pushed the pins in the rest of the way till they were flush. Of course, with this homemade solution, everything needed time to set, so you need to be prepared to allow the car just to set for a few hours, preferably a day.Given how you have to remove the hinge as shown by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQovVzO2_FA, I don't think my homemade modifications will keep the hinge from being removed if it breaks again, though I will likely have to pry more since I used RTV to bond the hinge as well.

Dorman 924-140 is the ONLY one to buy
I've installed several replacement fuel door hinges on my early P2 Volvos. The Dorman is the only one worth buying because the Dorman part has robust fastening pins whereas other products have weak pins that break off when attempting to push them into the expanding anchors.

Worked great with the right sized punch!
So this is definitely not the easiest piece to replace, but in terms of doing its job, this piece worked perfectly. I had to order another because I used too small of a punch to hammer in the pegs. Lesson learned!

Exact replica but still poor design
This appears to be an exact replica of the OEM Volvo part, so from that perspective it's 5 stars, just a 1 star deduction as there is no improvement in the poor design. This design by Volvo is clearly manufacturing cost cutting measure. The hinge is held in place by pushing through 4 plastic pieces that then expand an anchor on the opposite side behind the body panel. There is no reason why this couldn't have been secured via 4 torx screws, but that of course would have cost more $ and cut down on post-sales parts revenue. The hinge is well secured by the plastic anchors, but torx screws would have made the replacement job far easier to do. So I'm happy to buy this aftermarket version and give the revenue to another company besides Volvo. The major flaw are the plastic clips that hold the spring in place - they will continually break from swinging the door open and closed - especially here in NJ where we do not pump our own gas and instead have overzealous gas attendants!Update - 6/2016 - After 2 years it broke and needs replacement...will try ProPartsSweden which purports to be "reinforced."

Perfect fit
Easy to install and fits right.

OEM design with the same problems
Three of the four securing pins broke during installation, had to use 12 gauge copper (from Romex) as a fix/replacement. Not sure how long this replacement will hold but it's less than the Volvo one so that's how we roll I guess...

Dorman lasted 8 months, original part lasted 10 years - you be the judge
Dorman lasted 8 months, original part lasted 10 years - you be the judge. Where is that value? Now I need to replace this part AGAIN. FYI - first I tried an aftermarket part from Professional Parts Sweden (broke within a week). So compared to one other aftermarket sample, Dorman lasted alot longer, but still absolutely sucks compared to OEM. I assure everyone that this hinge part was installed properly, carefully and gently. Sure they say "reinforced", but the volume of material at the stressed location being greater does not make up for Dorman use of weaker strength material. I am not even going to bother wasting time with Dorman unless they contact me for help redesigning this part (yes, I can help). If they sent me a replacement I would throw it in the trash without opening the package. A simple replacement part like this needs to be made out of material equal or better in strength to OEM otherwise a review such as this occurs. Buy OEM or some other aftermarket. That is what I need to do now.

Needs to know instructions
It is too expensive, compare to quality.

Same as the original
This hinge is the same as the original, was hard to install because the plastic pins are not easy to punch them in. I hope it will last at least one year, this part is a poor design from Volvo, I think the weakest thing from a Volvo that is a Great vehicle.

Don't buy broke after only one opening.
Cheap plastic that will brake as soon as you open the gas door. Buy the Volvo original one instead.

Perfect fit but…
Perfect oem fit but the little tabs to push into the vehicle body are really brittle and break off easy. Be careful when hammering them.
