Is this the older PYREX versions, or the new pyrex POS types that explode?

I don't know about any exploding pyrex. I use mine to heat butter in all the time in the microwave. I have 4 different sized pyrex measuring containers and none have ever exploded.

Simple question: Does this cup have PYREX in capital letters or pyrex in small letters on it? Capitals are pictured, but....

The letters are 3/8 inches high. I'd call them big, but I have nothing to compare them to but my other Pyrex cups, which have the same size letters.

Is this cup made of tempered glass (soda-lime)?

All Pyrex glassware is made of tempered glass, unless they've changed their formula, which I really doubt. They've done that since the early 1950s, if not earlier. We've treated all of the Pyrex glass measuring containers like they're impervious to temperature for about 60 years with no problems to date. I think you've safe.
