Tom Ang's book, Digital Photography Essentials is an excellent reference book for technical details and various shooting situations. I've suggested this book to many photographers at various skill levels. I especially like the grid sections where he presents various scenarios and how to shoot them. This book will help the new photographer as well as clarify lots of information for the intermediate photographer. Tom's writing style is clear and direct.

Some very good ideas and techniques

This book is an excellent overview of most areas of digital photography. It is sort of like an encyclopedia. The author provides a clear description of many different concepts, techniques and skills (aperture, trimming and resizing, etc) and then shows examples of them. It does not go in-depth on any one topic but instead provides an overview of many topics and may not be as useful to someone with advanced skills. However, I found it very helpful, especially to learn specific new skills and about different areas of photography.

I was pleased with the information and layout of this book. I was looking for a good book to help me get the best use of my digital cameras. The books has lots of well detailed tips and ways to improve my photography skills. I'll be keeping this book close as I practice new skills with my digital cameras.

I have been teaching photography for over a decade. In my opinion this is the yet the best available source for the newcomer in the wonderful world of electronic imaging. I saw this book at Costco and held off on buying it because I had an Amazon gift card. It was a dollar or two cheaper than the Costco version and I spent enough on Amazon to get free shipping so it was a good deal. This book is very easy to read and I love the way the pages are laid out. It was better than I expected because it has activities for you to do to enhance your photography skills. I am excited to get out there are start taking pictures again.

This is a good book for learning digital photography using a DSLR. It does not matter which camera you have it will take you through the basics of photography and more specifically using a DSLR. This is without the clutter of the information that you will find the camera manufacturer reference manual. I would highly recommend this book.

Good and very informative

One of the best out there

It would be helpful if the book gave the camera settings captioned under each photo, this would help the beginner understand basic settings.

The book wasn't quite what I hoped. There are better books out there if you are a beginning photographer.
