This is just what it says it is
This product is a little manufactured looking, but for the price it is just what it says it is. If you were looking for a more authentic looking one at a higher price I suggest esty, but this was perfect for my needs and looks great.

Not "screen accurate", but excellent bang for buck.
Purchased this as a gift for my sister. We are both avid Dr.Who fans and I already had the $20 sonic screwdriver, so I wanted to get her something different. Found it cheaper here than the official BBC site, and I saw the reviews about how the cover was flat unlike the show. Knowing this, I still thought that for under $20 this was still a great deal for a prop that actually had a practical function. The printing on the front is very convincing that there are ridges, and I kept running my fingers over the cover to convince myself that they weren't there. If you aren't too concerned with having a perfect replica and don't care to spend lots of money, this is a pretty good option. Would buy again.

Not embossed like River's journal, but still a fine notebook
This is a licensed product (Doctor Who / BBC logos on the back), not an imitation or knockoff. It's a conventional notebook/journal, with 160 pages (320, counting both sides of each page). The cover is a cardboard hardback with a printed overlay that replicates the look (but not the feel) of River Song's journal. The endpapers are plain white; the journal sheets are around 22-pound bond paper, bright white with dark gray ruled lines (23 lines per page, 5/32" or 8 mm separation). The dimensions of the cover are 8" × 5" × 7/8" (20.3 cm × 12.7 cm × 0.22 cm). The dimensions of the journal pages are 7-3/4" × 4-3/4" (19.7 cm × 12.1 cm); subtract about 1/2" (1.3 cm) from the width that's too close to the binding to use usable. The binding is not exceptionally sturdy (the top half of first journal page in my copy is detached from the binding), but seems typical of a journal of this type and price. It will not lie flat. The price for this item is comparable to a moleskin journal of the same dimensions, but a moleskin will lie flat and usually have better quality binding and paper. With this item you're paying for the novelty of having a replica of River Song's journal. My 12-year-old daughter bought this with her own money, and is delighted with it.

A GREAT addition to your collection or gift!
I purchased this as a birthday gift for a friend who loves Dr. Who. Before I wrapped it up, I did open it up and was surprised at how well its made. The only negative thing I have to say is that in the show, the journal cover appears to be thicker with misc. grooves. This item does have the Tardis image but front and back, the journal is flat. No grooves. Other than that minor detail, I plan on ordering myself one. Above all, this is a great addition to any Dr. Who fan's collection.

a nice gift for dr who lovers
got this as a surprise for my 10-year old who is a big dr who/river song fan, and she loved it!no, the cover isn't textured. it's not carved, hand-painted wood, it's not covered in silk. alex kingston hasn't actually written in it. it hasn't actually travelled through time, as far as i know. but it's 10 dollars, and for that, it's pretty cool

I can understand the mixed reviews
I bought this in addition to two on Esty via CuriousCuriousities. I can definitely see the difference. Esty's runs about $35 and it has most of the things people complain about with this BBC licensed product: a textured (though not leather) cover that looks like River Song's actual journal on the book. There are two versions, a brand-new looking one with only some distress. And the other one is distressed as the journal looks as the show goes along! These two Etsy versions do not have lined pages and have a bookmark. This BBC licensed product definitely doesn't compare aesthetically. The cover is a photo with texture and the blue is too light and too green to make it look distressed. It's much smaller. It has a great amount of pages. And the pages are unlined. I'm keeping all of them because I go through journals very quickly. Even if the BBC one is a cheap facsimile.

River Song Journal
I purchased one of these last year for my oldest granddaughter (age10). It was such a hit that my daughter (her Mother) and her twin sisters (age 7) wanted to know why they each didn't have one of their own! Thus, my purchase of 3 more journals. Fans of Dr Who (and particularly Dr River Song) will be delighted to receive their own copy of this well made, lined page personal journal, the cover of which recalls the TARDIS. Highly recommended for making notes like "Dinosaurs.......on a space ship?", and sketching various and sundry Daleks, Cybermen, Salurians or whatever strikes the fancy of the journalist. Enjoy!

You're getting what you pay for.
I got this as a Valentine's Day present for my GF. I spent several weeks writing out our entire dating history. She loved it.For all the people complaining it is not exactly like the journal from the show they're correct. Yes you could paste on a dust jacket printed out and save some money. For the price though it's on par with other licensed merchandise I've bought. If it were an exact replica of River's journal I'd expect at least double the price. It's a decent journal. None of the pages fell out as some cheap journals do and it looks nice.
