Quvenzhan Wallis stars as Annie, a happy foster kid who?s also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York. Review: Great movie!! - This is my favorite version of Annie!! My granddaughter (age 6) loved it so much that I bought it for her. We watch it all the time!! Review: Silly but respectful - Family-friendly, nothing my tender six-year-old couldn't handle, well updated to the 21st century and MUCH better than the old Carol Burnett version. Kudos to the Smiths for doing such a good job making a hokey kids' movie with an African-American lead cast and multicultural appeal that also crosses socio-economic boundaries. It's rare to find any tv show or movie in which so many different kinds of people can see themselves honorably (and humorously) represented. The script is appropriate for the target audience. For example, it hints that Ms. Hannigan drinks too much, but she is always shown with a Big Gulp cup in her hand. Read into it what you will but my kiddo only saw a big slushy cup and a silly woman. That's a huge step up from the obviously drunken, vodka bottle slinging drunkard in the original movie. Also, Annie is not an orphan now; she's a foster kid in NYC. That's more modern and realistic. It is also a lot less scary for the little kids watching. Of course her parents aren't dead -- they are just not in the movie right now! Annie is the eternal optimist (of course) and the foster kids all love each other (so sweet), but she has some obstacles to overcome as do the adults and so the plot moves along at a reasonable and understandable pace. Overall this was a nice movie I didn't mind watching this with my child a few times. Hint: get the chapter book made from the movie to read [with your kid] first THEN let him/her watch it. That's an even bigger reward and it will encourage your child to read.

One of the Best Remakes Ever!!!
OMG! I loved this movie! Rarely do I like remakes because most of them sucked but I LOVED this remake of Annie. Annie is a big part of my childhood. I grew up watching the 1982 version so I was anxious to see this one. What really got me excited was that Annie is a black girl and there is a mixed cast! I loved that! It's about time little black girls have a positive movie that they can relate to. This remake proves that whether you are black or white, the magic of Annie is universal. This film was adorable, funny, and will have you singing along with the cast. Q Wallis is a genuine star and she charms from beginning to end. Jamie Fox is a hoot in the Staks AKA Daddy Warbucks role. He and Q had tons of chemistry and were wonderful in every scene. Cameron Diaz impressed the heck out of me and stole the show as far as I am concerned. She proves once again that she's not just a pretty face. What I like about Diaz is she isn't afraid to take roles that most glamorous actresses wouldn't touch. She made the movie for me. I highly recommend this film for wholesome, quality family entertainment! The whole family will be singing and dancing before it's over! This film has everything, even romance!

It was fantastic. I enjoyed it better than the original one. The girl and Jamie worked great together. The whole cast were sensational.

GREAT updated version of a wonderful classic story. My daughter's favorite!
This is my 8yo daughter's favorite version of Annie, after having seen all three. And I do definitely think it is as good as the others. My personal favorite is Disney's 2000 version because it most closely matches the Broadway musical, but I'd definitely recommend this one to modern kids. I grew up with the 80s version and of course no one will ever top Carol Burnett's portrayal of Hannigan, but other than that I think it's inferior to this one and to Disney's. The first time I saw this I thought it was "OK," but I watched it with her again recently and was getting goosebumps all the way through. It does have a few scenes which I think could have been left on the cutting room floor (like "Moonquake..." weird), but the key scenes are done REALLY well. It captures the heart of the original story and brings it into modern times, more accessible to today's kids. I really liked the switch to black co-stars, and my white daughter expressed how she loves Annie's hair (which, impressively, was kept natural all the way through)--I love that this is one more way for her to internally normalize diversity, as we live in a 95% white state. The music is FANTASTIC. If you have doubts about watching this or scoff at what some consider an unnecessary remake, listening to samples from the soundtrack might change your mind. I LOVE all of the new versions of the songs! (And of course so does my daughter.) And there are some great new songs, particularly "The City's Yours" and "Who Am I?" (goosebumps all the way through that one!) The soundtrack is a solid 5 stars.

Not the Annie we know and love, but easily just as good.
Wow. Far from being the typical re-hash of an old classic, this new Annie takes an old story, and remixes with a 21st century twist, and does it well. Things aren't entirely the same - Annie is a clever and street wise "foster kid" (as she insists), but is still a sweet, cheery, wiser-than-her-age child. Will Stacks (Daddy Warbucks), is a germaphobe with political aspirations, but is still a cynical workaholic with a pauper to prince background. They added a few new songs to the movie, but kept the old (with a bit a re-write). There's a few more differences, but the important part is they kept the spirit of the movie intact while bringing it into a more modern setting. It was just as heartwarming as the old classic we all know so well - if even a little moreso because the characters are far more relatable in this version. It is still a musical, though they like to poke fun at this fact through-out the movie - even going so far as to have characters point out the singing and how odd it is. It's honestly the perfect mix of humor, sentiment, and musical fun. I'd definitely recommend this movie.

Na ja, so ungefähr jedenfalls. Will Gluck erzählt die Story in seiner 2014er Version perfekt.
