A Must Have for Your Switch!
Absolutely frustrating and fun at the same time, honestly if you don't get your timing right for boosting in this game consider yourself last. While I see everyone saying its better than Mario Kart 8, the truth is that it's not as it suffer from a mechanic known as rubber-banding. Basically no matter how good a lead you take the computer is always magically pushed to be right behind you. Hence it is challenging and fun but you have to be at your best. Also while Mario Kart doesn't have the flawed rubber-banding, it's frustration is items which is something this game has balanced out. Another horrible thing the developer has done is put in micro transactions (pay real money to unlock things) which is absolutely not right but at the same time it's not like major things are tied to spending actual money as a good amount of grinding in the game will get you what you need to better your driving.Overall it's a great game and a must buy if you want to enjoy Crash Team Racing on the go. If that's not your priority then get the game for the PS4/XBOX ONE as they are graphically better and cheaper.

A fun game that is kid friendly
This review is for the Switch version. What a fun game! I've tried the Adventure, Arcade and Online modes and all work great without exception. As soon as the game was delivered my 8 year old daughter was giddy about putting the game in and racing pops 1 on 1. She has played the Crash Trilogy on Switch and knows the Crash games aren't as easy as some of the Mario games including Mario Kart with "kid mode" enabled. I told her CTR would not have a kid mode and to plan to get used to the joystick control for steering. We played arcade mode out of the box to get right into the action. Several characters were available to choose from along with a long list of colorful and fun levels. In "easy" mode she did struggle some, placing 7th or 8th in the races. But she had a smile on her race the entire time! Easy mode is a bit faster than 50cc Mario Kart, and the other modes leave tons of room to challenge the most seasoned racers. Arcade mode in split screen (2 player) looks great on the Switch, with no noticeable drop in framerate or graphic detail. However, when we added a 3rd person the screen split to four boxes and things became heavily pixelated and there seemed to be a drop in the framerate. This was in dock mode, connected to a LG OLED with the settings where they need to be. The Switch definitely was the weak link in the 3-4 player action. I suspect my Xbox One X or PS4 Pro would handle that without issue as it isn't exactly Witcher 3 details. Online mode worked fine, finding 5 players to connect with, and launching with relatively minimal wait times. Yes, there are load screens in the Switch version, sometimes upwards of 30 seconds. These wait times were present in online, arcade and Adventure modes. Online mode exposed I have a long way to go in mastering this game as playing in "easy" against my 8 year old wasn't much of a challenge. Meanwhile, a 10 year old in Wisconsin drove circles around me in Online mode. You will notice there are tons of characters, carts and aesthetic features that can be unlocked. I found the quickest way to do that is by playing the Adventure mode. Each time you complete a race in Adventure mode you are rewarded with a new unlocked feature. Easy mode was easy, but again appropriate for a kid, or someone who wants to quickly unlock stuff. All in all an excellent game. My 8 year old asked to race as soon as she woke up today, so clearly it is a hit for old and young racers alike. A bit of a learning curve for those who haven't played Mario Kart and also a bit faster, but that's part of why I love Crash games. They give you a challenge while also leaving you satisfed (even if you get 8th place). Suggestions for developers: reduce loading times on Switch version, enable gyroscope controls similar to Mario Kart, and consider a "kid mode" . I would not hesitate to order this game, especislly if you have kids or friends to race online.
