The highest tech reservoir I have ever owned
I have owned a Gen-2 Camelbak for nearly a decade now, as well as a variety of wineskins, lightweight water bottles, and waterbags and nothing has compared to the Gen-4.The Crux reservoir features a variety of new kinds of tech that make this water bag stand out.- covered mouthpiece- detachable hose without leaking (unless some water is still in the hose part, that will still leak)- 30 degree tilt for hose detachment so it doesnt interfere with the handle-much stronger, easier to grip handle than the old models- quarter turn "click in" lock. Old camelbaks had to be fully rotated 3-4 times to close- hose covered in fabric to prevent rips and tears- extra thick, internally sealed bladder prevents rips, making the seals the strongest part of the bagall of these aformentioned things make this bag a must buy for rugged, long term use. I am going to be going on a 60 mile hike in the next few weeks and if anything goes wrong I will give and updated review, till then, I highly recommend this bagPS: A little tip, wash with warm water and soap when you first purchase it and it will easily remove the chemical taste from the water. It amazes me how many reviews for this thing say it has a bad taste, they clearly didnt wash it. It takes 5 minutes and it completely neutralizes the issue.

Replacement
Got this as a replacement for my M.U.L.E., seems like it fits and will work whenever I get around to using it

Excellent bladder.
Easy to clean and take apart and easy to fill, while drying roll up the hose and put it in the mouth of the bladder to keep it open so it dries fully, but the rim can hold some water, just make sure it dries fully so it is a safe water source. Fits well in the CamelBak mil spec crux.

I shot it with a AK47 and still didn’t leak lol (not really)
Awesome and well worth the cost. Definitely take a beating w/o leaking or bursting open. Also very easy to clean and fill with ice. There are definitely cheaper options available which for some might be perfect, but if you’re hiking and everything you have and need is strapped to your back and right next to a 3L bag of water, do you really want to trust something that only cost $15 with a name brand you know nothing about not to rupture and soak everything you have? I’ll pass on that noise which is why I spent extra and got this. In all fairness I’ll never know if I could’ve went with the cheaper one or not but my gear didn’t get wet and that’s all I care about.

Great bladder
It works really well does add a lot of weight to an already heavy pack but it was worth it water lasted all weekend

Flawed design, Not well insulated from cold
I have been very disappointed with the quality of this Mil-Spec reservoir. The Mil-Spec design is slightly different than the standard Crux reservoir, with the bite valve separated from the (insulated) tubing system by a connector that is exposed to the elements. This results in an effectively useless reservoir in winter weather (e.g., while hiking or skiing) because the exposed component freezes near instantaneously when ambient temperatures or wind chill dip below freezing. I've also had the hanging clip break off the bag after less than two months of use. The "Mil-Spec" label might allow them to charge more for this item, but the craftsmanship is subpar. If you need a reservoir for use in colder climates, I suggest you look elsewhere.
