It's heavy and looks well made. Our grandson will enjoy displaying it. He is in the Marines.

Well crafted. Nice and heavy.

Well built
Seem to be very well built but you do need to have a large hand xl at least for it to be comfortable.

Tactical AXE, .....not a Tactical Tomahawk...depends what you are looking for
Tactical Axe or Tomahawk - which are you looking for? The first things I noticed when I received the USMC Tactical (Axe) was how well made, high quality and heavy duty it is. It has a very heavy head on it more for the purposes of chopping wood, (or breaking bones.) The handle is about 2 inches shorter (and larger diameter) than my other Tactical (tomahawk) so this "Axe" has a shorter reach but may be better suited for swinging in short or tight spaces. I cannot see trying to swing this heavy of an axe one-handed for personal protection or in a fight, quickly for any length of time. You would swing it one time and be off balance and not able to recover quickly enough even it you had a knife in the other hand (I have compared the two). - This is best suited as an Axe; I may keep this in my truck as a breaching tool (windshields), for camping or for close quarters protection in the vehicle. I have a tactical "Tomahawk" from SOG which I purchased here on Amazon which is lighter with longer handle which is best suited for quick slashing, hooking ,repetitive striking or for use in combination with a fighting knife ( like a Kabar ). But the hawk is not as well suited for heavy duty chopping/smashing. Both are nice products...just depends what you are looking for...Axe or Hawk

Combat Axe I.E. "Tactical" not a campfire princess
The Civilians writing reviews here crack me up! "The handle doesn't make sense, it hurts my hands, you can't use this for hours chopping wood...." So let me break this down. Marines literally greet each other on a daily basis with the word "kill" like you would use "hello" or "Roll Tide" if you're inbred from Alabama. Let that add perspective... The handle is shaped that way so that blood doesn't slick the handle and cause a loss of grip...it's expected, I'm sure, that youre wearing combat gloves.... It's stamped by the Corps and not expected to be a campfire princess.... I chopped up some 2x4s I had lying around with no problem, experienced no vibrations, compass worked fine... It's not a fine precision instrument just a magnetized compass. 550 cord is already attached for hooking and the head sheath is button on well built but not tactical and only has a belt loop. Axe needs some serious sharpening upon receiving.

GREAT GEAR
I bought this and was going to use as a souvenir. I opened it up and was pretty amazed. The quality of the bruiser was exceptional. I gave it a little bit of sharping and it goes everywhere with me. I have chopped trees and dug with it also. Let's not forget it is the gear is for survival, so it works perfectly for game too.

Worth it!
Right out of the box the ax has a comfortable heft, sturdy and for the kids in me looks cool. Only down side is the ax edge is almost flat so trying to chop anything would be a hell of a chore. Will be spending time on the grinder to give it a proper edge.
