I fell in love with the design the moment I saw it, I mean this guitar can just hang on your wall as a piece of art and be worth its weight. I already have plenty of guitars and really did not need another acoustic. I already have a great Taylor dreadnought. However, I always liked Martin's, so I was really intrigued at the price of only $599 (I paid equivalent amount to that on Amazon). I have a Taylor Dreadnought (114E) that cost ne about the same. Also Made in Mexico. So I use that as a comparison piece. You will definitely be buying this guitar because of its design definitely not only for its sound. Off the shelf the guitar is very playable but the action is a little high. After a few adjustments (I sanded down bridge and adjusted the truss rod) It now plays great. I also like the sound of Elixer strings so I changed that out. The guitar sounds pretty good with the stock Martin strings but that's your preference. The laminated top does absorb a bit of high end but it still sounds like a Martin. These DX420's will definitely be a conversation piece when you get on stage. The built in Fishman pickup sounds awesome. I really think Martin did a great job with these.Cons: The laminate neck is a bit ugly and gives a bit of cheap appearance. The fret board has some very sharp edges.
