If your idea of licorice is Switzer's, or that soft, sweet Australian stuff, you might want to take the next step and experience licorice for grownups. The Dutch are "gek op drop", or "crazy for licorice." There are countless varieties, firm, soft, sweet and salty, and this variety pack from Gustaf's is a good way to begin your exploration. The slightly salty coins in this variety pack will give you a taste of that style of licorice. By the way, the "salt" in salty licorice isn't common table salt, but ammonium chloride. It's an acquired taste, but you may become addicted.

So hard the exterior crackles on the cats and the coins are like eating boot leather (im assuming).

Received promptly! I don't like licorice, but my boyfriend loves it! This was packaged beautifully and arrived in perfect condition. It is going to make a great addition to his growing stash of Christmas goodies. In the past, I know he has purchased the coins and the cats because they have the right amount of salt and aren't too chewy in case anyone is looking for a review of the candy itself. He doesn't like sweet licorice. I will definitely order from Black Tie Mercantile again if I am in the market for licorice. :-)

I gave the variety pack to a dear friend who loves black licorice. The Black Tie package/box was a gorgeous package that she is keeping the licorice packages save and "hidden." As for the licorice itself, my friend loves Gustaf's because it doesn't leave a bitter aftertaste. So overall my experience with Black Tie and the Gustaf's product has been a great experience that I would gladly recommend to anyone interested in the product and/or company.

Not as strong flavored as I like and a little tough to chew. The packaging is well done.

This came in amazing time and comes in a very nice gift box all together! My boyfriend loves these, however the one with a little bit of salt is his favorite. He views it as a manly candy and has been looking everywhere for this company. LOVE IT! Best for anyone who loves to try candy from other parts of the world and for anyone who loves Licorice!

I love licorice and buy it whenever I'm in the Netherlands but it never seems to last long enough! Gustaf's is pretty good - the cats are sweet and the coins have just a little bit of salt, which I really like. Good quality, relatively good price, and I like the variety.

I have to say that I was disappointed with this group of licorice candies. They were not fresh and I did not find the licorice flavour particularly outstanding. I had done some research and was expecting more. I gave it two stars because it was not fresh.
