Figure Drawing Studio: Drawing and Painting the Nude Figure from Pose Photos

I was highly anticipating this book and it finally came! My first impression was it was well put together and of high quality. After sitting down and looking it over I felt inspired and impressed in equal parts. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to do art-model pose photographs in figure drawing. The artist Butch Krieger comes across as knowledgable, talented and skillful. He walks us through with step by step using simple poses and then progresses to more advanced instructions. He gives really great advice in his Epilogue (back of the book) and I just kept going back and reading it over and over. Worth every penny!

To date, this has to the best book on the subject of 'figure drawing I now have in my library.

I have taken a workshop from Butch Krieger in the past and like his workshop this book doesn't disappoint. I found it to be a excellent approach to the figure.

One of the best art books that I have seen. The author is very detailed and very illustrative. I liked his systematic approach with teaching.

While I agree with the 3 star review that much of the book is repetitive the CD bumps it up to 4 star for me. Those who do not have access or the money for a nude model will appreciate the extensive photos of multiple models male and female, alone and in groups of 2, they are very well lighted with dark spaces and highlights. Let's face it we aren't all near an art school or have the time to attend a live drawing class and the ones I've been in do not allow photographs (I asked).The book itself was not of much great interest to me but could be to a beginner, although I suspect a rank beginner could become extremely confused by so many different suggestions given. There were some interesting bits however. Pg 18 showed the correct line to use sketching vs. the wrong line (also shown) and this alone would help a beginner greatly.I liked when the author pointed out "mistakes" in his drawings (illustrated) and explained why he left them in, encouraging artists not to try and be perfect as long as the final product expressed their goal.

Book was bought for my brother in-law and the CD that came with it was snapped in half and is not able to be used. The book it self was good and helped his drawings.

Really good, instructive book with great nude model photography. Don't need to find a life class anymore.

This is a truly superb resource. If you don't have access to any models or visit an art school etc, this is a really wonderful alternative resource. It is also a useful resource even if you do have access to the previous. A lot of great advice throughout the book and the photos are a great start point for all kinds of sketches and painting etc

Ottimo libro di riferimento per chi vuole fare pratica del disegno della figura umana. Fornisce ottimi consigli sia sul disegno da foto (allegato al libro c'è un disco con tantissime pose) sia sul disegno dal vivo, e anche su come scegliere e "dirigere" i modelli ricercando una proprio originalità espressiva. Costo davvero moderato per un libro così ricco. Consigliatissimo!
