Excellent for the price and for $20 what a whiz-bang gift that makes a big impression
Original price around $100 at wal-mart: Not worth it Sale price at wal-mart $70: Not worth it, maybe, because volume isn't incredibly loud for a $70 amp Sale price at Amazon: $30 TOTALLY WORTH IT and buy an extra as a gift, bluetooth users will love it and at around $30 it is a bargain but I can't see Memorex making any money at that price so my guess is this item won't be around for long. At $20 I start to feel sad for Memorex, they must be regretting this! But that's our bargain here. I've had mine for 2 months now and love it for the money spent, and my father-in-law loved it for his Nexus 7 android tablet, it blew his mind! Update 12/13/14 I've had it for 6 months or so, and compared to other prices for bluetooth speakers, this is one of Amazon's best kept secrets, and now the price is down to $20 so I bought another for another gift and I think it'll be a smash hit with the recipient. It's not incredibly loud, no. A practical, everyday kind of loud, yes. But I can be hard of hearing and for me it's perfect for a movie or whatever, even podcasts. If you want to blast for a party, this wouldn't be the speaker but for sheer size and convenience, it works great with my 3rd generation iPod Touch, 5th Generation iPod Touch, iPad with Retina and my old 2008 Macbook pro that has built-in Bluetooth, so it supports all of my Apple products. I use the speaker for watching Amazon Prime movies, Netflix, Youtube, podcasts and music. My father has an Android Nexus Tablet and it works great for him, he loves this thing. This thing will even run on batteries (6AA) if you want to go portable, and it has a direct wired-in connection too, for non-bluetooth devices that have an audio output. I can't see anything wrong with this device for $20 and I've used it a lot for 6 months. My hunch is Memorex won't be able to afford to make this unit so inexpensive and it'll be discontinued, but I predicted that when I bought it and it's still for sale, so what do I know? Cheers.

Owned for over 4 Years.....One comment: Junky Bluetooth
To be honest, I should've thrown this speaker out a few years ago. The problem is that you hate spending money on something and then throwing it out right away. The speaker basically ended up in a box somewhere. We recently moved and I came across it. I couldn't remember what exactly was the problem. Now I'm reminded. This speaker consistently has a static issue, as if it's loosing the Bluetooth connection briefly. Also, I remembered a couple years ago this speaker having problems connecting sometimes. There you have it. Maybe we got a bad one, but I sure wouldn't buy again, not for this price. I recommend against buying this speaker. It's a shame, the sound is pretty decent. Peace.

OK, I guess. Not exceptional in any way except battery life
If you just want to watch Netflix on your laptop with a better sound than the built-in speakers, then this will work for you. You won't be overly impressed with clarity, high/low balance, or stereo separation, but I think on average it is satisfactory. This would also be a good choice (in wired mode) for a portable presentation speaker in those small conference rooms with 15-20 people. Certainly loud enough to get heard, and with decent enough quality for clarity in that range of use. I wouldn't depend on the bluetooth hookup in that setting unless you're ok with the embarrassing moment where you have to troubleshoot your sound in the middle of a presentation. Choppy bluetooth connectivity with a Macbook Pro, took a little troubleshooting, but now it seems to hold the audio OK most of the time. Sometimes it drops the connection still, which is annoying. With a 3.5mm patch cable, it works 100%. Battery life is superb, probably the best thing about it.

Works well so far....
This review is for Memorex wireless Bluetooth speaker. This unit uses four aa's if not on the AC adapter it comes with. Auto shut off feature when not in use, fairly quickly locates signal and provides a quality midrange sound. I use the microphone to answer calls while at my desk and the speaker to listen to music. If your looking for a take along speaker to listen to music at high volume this is NOT suitable. In a small room its good for a speakerphone and to listen to audiobooks or mp3's. The large knob is a volume on/off switch. However you can plug it into a stereo with a patch cord and turn your home stereo into a Bluetooth receiver. A decent product for the price (bought on sale).

Better than expected
I think it is fair to say this is one of the best wireless speakers out there in the lower price range. It works on either AC power or 4 "AA" batteries and either way it sounds quite nice. It is a fairly heavy and solid unit, with an upright structure that is taller than it is fat, which is nice for desktops and countertops. It is compact, but not particularly small (some of the lower cost units out there are not much bigger than a soft drink can, but this is more like a two-slice toaster, though not as fat). The knob works well (better than buttons) and looks really good. But the keys to any Bluetooth speaker are how easily it connects to your device, and how well it produces sound. I found connectivity to be super easy and once set for your device, you just turn it on and it does the rest within a few seconds. The sound is full and robust. Anyone who might complain about the sound probably has one of two issues working against them - unrealistic expectations (this is not a 500-watt home stereo system) or improper tone settings on their source device (probably a smartphone). Though your device, you want to play with bass, midrange, and treble settings to find a match between this speaker and your tastes. On my device, I could play with a full equalizer screen and I got a sound that gives full, rich tones without getting muddy until you turn the speaker up too much. You can't really turn the knob more than about 2/3 of the way without some distortion if you have the volume setting of your phone or music device set to nearly full (which is what the manufacturer recommends). The nice thing is that you can then adjust total system volume from your phone or the speaker. In summary, I was impressed enough with one of these that I bought another and I find them easy and pleasing to use in my office and in my kitchen. Want to fill a large room with full sound? Then you will need something more powerful.

... this even one star is that it is very easy to setup
The only reason I am giving this even one star is that it is very easy to setup. The sound is extremely muffled and base heavy. It sounds like a 1940's radio. If you're very nostalgic, get this. If you are even remotely an audiophile, don't bother! Sorry I bought it. It's not even worth the restock fee to send back.

Meh
Good sounding but not worth the price. The Bluetooth is super useful but it cuts out when I walk into the other room with my phone or if my phone is under a blanket. Stupid.

Connects with mobile devices AND computers
This is a great little speaker. It connected easily with my iPhone 4 and my Sony Laptop running Windows 7 (this is contrary to what I read in another review that said this speaker is designed to connect only with mobile devices and not with computers -- I don't think that's true -- I believe it will connect with any recently manufactured computer that supports the latest version of bluetooth -- perhaps other reviewers could weigh in on this issue). The sound is good for a speaker its size. I use it for listening to TV, streaming music, and audiobooks at moderate volume from a short distance (it's on the end table next to my easy chair so I can easily reach over and adjust the volume) -- the speaker is perfect for this type of listening. If you're looking for a speaker that really rocks out, go for a larger one. A couple notes: 1) Another review said that the volume/on-off knob does not click when you turn it off, but mine gives a nice, satisfying click. 2) The other review also said a power cord was not included, but mine had one. Perhaps that reviewer received an older model. Pet peeve: I almost didn't give this five stars because it has a ubiquitous bluetooth device "feature" that I find really annoying. This "feature" has been included in every single bluetooth speaker and headset I have ever tried (and I've tried a lot of them). Here's the "feature": If you're listening via bluetooth and the audio ends (for example, it's the end of a playlist, or you've programmed your mobile device to stop playing after a certain number of minutes), the speakers will wait twenty minutes and then beep before going into sleep mode. Why, oh why, do all these bluetooth devices have to beep when they go into sleep mode or loose their audio input? Hey, speaker, I'm already asleep so please don't wake me up just to tell me you're going to sleep. Fortunately, it doesn't do this when the source is the line in, only when the source is bluetooth, but hey, it's still darned annoying. Are you listening, designers? There's no need for a speaker to beep when goes into sleep mode or loses its audio input -- we'll figure it out soon enough -- all that needless beeping is just annoying, especially when we're asleep.
