Aqueon Quietflow Internal Power Filter,Black

I replaced an external Aqueon 45 filter with this internal one. It was a gamble, but my 29 gallon tank is doing fine, and fish seem happy. The reason for the change.. we had moved the tank and the external filter was vibrating against our bedroom wall making it noisier than usual. This internal 40 is silent.. really. We could extend the outlet tube so it would be making bubbly noises but I decided just to keep it all underwater. As far as cleaning goes, I will need to reach into the tank and pull it out to clean it. More work than the external, but I am willing to do it since the trade off in noise levels is worth the extra effort.

3 month update: this filter is a fail. The noise level and vibration it produced was pretty bad. My crayfish went into hiding and my fish became mental and blame the noise/vibration this filter produced inside the aquarium. It does filter the water fast but i would not recommend this. Small footprint inside tank. This is a big plus. You can modify and put your own biologicals. Noise level is low but it does produce sound. Low humming sound. No flow adjustments, just directional control is kinda disappointing.

Simple design, easy to clean, filters beautifully, can put exhaust flow where it works for you.

I have had the same 20 gallon aquarium for 15 years and I wish I had known about this product back then!!! Truly the best, quietest, easiest to maintain filter system I’ve ever tried!! Highly recommend!

Works very well, quiet and strong enough for a turtle tank.

This item arrived on time in a damaged package. Set it up and it seemed to work perfectly. Very good suction to inside of aquarium. Very powerful water flow. A little more powerful than what my small turtle likes (30 gallon tank about 2/3 full) but with aiming it correctly it was going to be fine. Unfortunately after a couple weeks of use it no longer pumps any water. I can hear the motor turn on but it does nothing. Very disappointed and bummed I wasted the money on this.

I have two turtles in a 50 gallon tank. They are about a year old. And the filter cleared my tank of cloudiness.

So.....this isn't the pump I bought in 2016. They have built this new one cheaper. It lacks a flow regulator and instead of an impeller (a magnet driven pump wheel) the tiny pump wheel inside is affixed to something driving it. This is likely the point of failure in the device. I had it installed in my turtle tank along with a still working unit that is at least 5 years old and blasting out water no problem. I imagine the pump got gunked up with turtle poop etc. And burnt out. With previous models this had no affect on the motor as there was no physical connection to the motor. I paid good money for this product and had come to rely on the device in one version or another for over 10 years. I think it may work well in an environment less dirty than a turtle tank with regular cleanings but I was dissatisfied to pull it out and find that it was busted. My fear for others would be if they got behind on cleanings they may also have their pump burn out. Pros: these pumps are super quiet and submerged fully. You can swap the expensive cartridges for media bags and your choice of filter media like charcoal etc.
