WHY DO YOU NEED TO BUY A DVD/BLU-RAY PLAYER AND PHYSICAL MEDIA?
The reason is simple... Power and Internet Outages and Natural Disasters are a real world threat to your access to entertainment, and these events can happen at anytime without notice. Suddenly and in an instant, you can find yourself without access to high quality premium entertainment. You, like me, have probably experienced such an event, when internet streaming services may not be accessible, nor available for hours, days, or even weeks.Luckily, if you're like me, you have a vast physical media collection and keep a DVD/Player or two on hand in case such an event occurs. While your neighbors sit in the dark, YOU are sitting in front of your Big Screen OLED-HDTV watching 4K movies in Dolby Vision, while your sound bars blast out stunning audio in HiRes Dolby Atmos... And the Sony UBP-X800M2 is your weapon of choice to see you through any internet streaming blackout. The Sony UBP-X800M2's robust metal construction and elegant design is superior to anything at its price point, it is not meant for lesser mortals. Under the sleek bonnet you have all the power and tools you need, standing at the ready, to use at your disposal to play anything from the most primitive of DVD's, to the latest 4K ULTRA HD content, yes, even those stored on an external drive... And you can even operate in stealth mode with BlueTooth wireless headphones and still immerse your ears in the glory of 7.1 Dolby Atmos, while your neighbors are left rubbing sticks together to forge fire. Why do you to need invest in a solid DVD/Blu-Ray player? Because real world threats happen, the rise of inflation, increase in streaming costs, and the real world threat of internet outages, but these threats are no longer stuck in the back of your mind, because you had the forethought to get a Sony UPB-X800M2 4K Ultra HD player, and you stacked your physical media collection to the ceiling to negate any threat to your access to premium entertainment... You are now prepared for the worst case scenario my friend.Carry on.

Incredible sound improvement; easy setup
I bought this upgraded Sony UBP-X800M2 Bluray player to replace a much older Sony player that just wasn’t playing movies well anymore. After watching the price fluctuations over the past couple of years and reading very mixed reviews, I decided to take a chance and buy one.The player I ordered came with a high quality HDMI cable (which I used) and an Ethernet cable (that I didn’t need). Paying the extra $10 was worth it for the HDMI cable, which is really nice. The owners manual is straightforward, and I had no difficulties hooking the player up with my Yamaha AV receiver and getting it set up with Wi-Fito my home router. It comes with a remote control, but I found my home theater system universal remote controls this player without any changes from my old Sony player.I loaded up a fresh Bluray version of Top Gun: Maverick to test it out, and I was absolutely blown away by the huge improvement in sound quality over my old player. I have long suspected my old player just couldn’t adequately decode the modern Blu-ray Discs, and this new player confirmed it. My TV is an old projection type set, so I cannot comment about video performance, but the sound is magnificent. I really need to replace my TV so I can fully appreciate what this player can do.Aside from playing movies, this player can also directly access Amazon Prime Video and Netflix if you subscribe to either of those services. I have an Amazon Fire TV box, and this player eliminates needing to use it to watch Prime videos or listen to music on Prime. The player can also directly access YouTube. It does not, however, have the ability to install other apps. The only negative is the player did become totally unresponsive when I tried to turn it on another time. This resolved after I unplugged power and reconnected it. This has, so far, only happened once, but it does raise my level of concern since there are legions of negative reviews reporting the same issue in this model before the M2 upgrade. The player arrived with the most current firmware already installed, so I’m hoping the one freeze was an isolated incident.Overall, I really like this Sony Bluray player. If your movies are not looking and sounding good anymore, certainly consider upgrading your player.

An updated replacement for a 18year old blue ray player
Figuring it would be a nice little update. This one coupled with my new reciever blew me away. Its quiet and an easy setup. I just set it up with a 4k projector and the 4k image was incredable. The play now has me buying 4k and blue rays again.

Solid, Quality heavy unit, works as intended.
Good unit, rather large but built well. Plays DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K perfectly well. The remote could be designed better and there is lack of streaming apps available for the unit. The interface is dated and a bit primitive but does work as intended. Region free hacks are available but pricey and complex if you do not have technical skills. If you just want to play discs then this unit is a good choice.

Sony Top-Shelf Blu-Ray
Sony put an excellent package together. You get the player, HDMI cables and LAN cable. Sony products are designed to work together. I connected my player to my Sony A95L. I upgraded the HDMI cables to Colbalt 48's. They are phenomenal, and you truly can see and hear the difference in the picture and audio. The player and TV will pair together and can be controlled by one remote, if they are both Sony. The player puts out sharp picture, deep blacks, vivid color, 4K and up. The player's audio gives you the coveted Dolby Atmos, which is just incredible. Do connect high-end HDMI cables that can transfer a huge amount of data that gives you a larger bandwidth so you get the 4K video and Dolby Atmos sound. The player is good to go with eARC capabilities. Sony has an outstanding Blu-Ray player, it preforms greatly with a Sony Smart Google TV and an HDMI audio driven sound bar with surround speakers and subwoofer. You will not get the wide range of Dolby Atmos sound if you use digital optical. However, digital optical is still produces excellent audio.
