MTEL Early Childhood 02 Teacher Certification Test Prep Study Guide (XAM MTTC) 2nd Edition

I am an elementary school teacher seeking to add early childhood to my license. Even after reading the poor reviews, I purchased this text to help study for the MTEL because it was really the only seemingly comprehensive text available. It was certainly a mistake (and $61 completely wasted). I read, studied, and reviewed this text cover-to-cover. Aside from being plagued with typos (especially between the answer key and questions), the questions and methods were extremely basic and not nearly as challenging as the MTEL itself. I have not yet taken the MTEL, but after completing the text and mastering it's subjects, I took the MTEL pre-test online. There is no comparison. The questions on the MTEL are much more complex than this text leads on. It also consists of topics that are not covered in this text. I am incredibly disappointed in this purchase and I urge you to reconsider. The front cover says "Pass the Test the First TIME!" I'm seriously considering writing to the publisher requesting a refund if that is not the case when I do take the test. My advice is to take the practice test online, then find the areas you need to focus on and seek other options to study. Please listen to these reviews and don't waste your money and time like I did.

Love it worth every penny

1. I agree with all of the reviewers that the poor editing in this book is astounding - it commits some of the grammatical errors that it teaches test-takers not to use! I too am wondering if it was edited at all or if it was written by someone who does not speak English as a first language (or have an editor).2. I also agree that this book does not really prep you for much that's covered on the test...and unfortunately, its practice tests only test on the subject matter they incorrectly believe is actually covered on the test. If you take the official MTEL practice test, you'll notice that there's a lot more on there as well as differences in how much focus is placed on/the depth of each competency.3. I strongly recommend you do NOT buy this. Practice tests, workshops at local colleges and universities, websites like Brainpop.com and Mathisfun.com, and your colleagues will provide you much more help than this book ever will - probably entirely for FREE.4. Seriously...I think I failed my MTELs because this book was so misleading. It should be taken off the shelves. And removed from Amazon, who I always trust to be reputable.5. I hope that if I do fail, I'm the only one out there who made the grave error of using this book to prepare.

While this book has a lot of information - it is full of typos, mistakes, and is light on innovative test prep tips. Common sense test taking tips are provided - but none that are specific enough to make a difference. It is clear that this book should have spent more time on the editor's desk (and that is assuming it ever was edited in the first place). There are so many typos and errors that one must question if the book is a good use of the user's time and effort. While the range of information was helpful - it was not very pertinent to the test I took (MTEL Early Childhood). Very few (if any) questions posed in the book were on the test. I think the editing issue must be a problem with this publisher since a fellow test taker expressed the same frustration with the mistakes in her Xam book in a different subject. I would not recommend this series of test prep books.

I've passed several MTEL's and have been teaching almost 10 years. I bought this book to prepare for the 02 test, and can't believe how much of a waste of money it was. The information given in the book is vague, and doesn't really seem to cover the topics under the objectives that it says it will cover. Also, the history section just lists important events and people you should know about, and doesn't tell about them, you are left to look it up on your own. There are places in the book that refer you to the internet to get information. Looking at a practice MTEL and comparing it to the math section here, there are a lot of concepts not covered in the book that are on the MTEL. Waste of money and time. I looked at the inside cover to see who the writers and people who were on the project for the book were, and was surprised by their degree statuses. Buy another MTEL prep book for the 02 test. I want my money back, as well as the amount of time I've wasted deciphering the book and then doing my own research.

I've read this publication cover to cover and cannot believe how many typos, errors, bad uses of grammarand even errors in math are in the book. It's shocking. The author should be horrified that it's actuallyin print like this. I'm seriously wondering if the title "XAM" on the front cover is just another spelling mistake where they left out the letter "E". The author should have them all pulled from the shelves and refund our money.

Probably one of the worst study guides I have ever used. A ton of typos throughout the book. Does not actually teach you anything. It is all so general and unlike anything you would see on the test. Ultimately I wasted my money.
