Bittersweet
I really loved this manga. The art was dark and compelling, which frankly, is my favorite style. The cast of characters were unique and had interesting backstories. I really would have loved to see this go further, because it was such a unique premise. Humans vs Mononoke and Jiro and Rago right in the center trying to show people that the two species can live and thrive together. Totally awesome. Not to mention Rago was a certified powerhouse, so it would have been interesting to see Jiro absorb and come to control more of his power. So while it was a sweet series, I'm sad to see it go. It was definitely something I enjoyed.

Bad packaged but overall good
My husband loves anime and manga so I decided to get him these series for our anniversary. Only problem was that we didn't like how it was packaged. They are books they should be packaged with care. Some of the corners were ruined of the books. Other than that he loved that I got him the whole series.

Good ending
~3.5-4 StarsThey've figured out what Amagi is doing and what his plan is, and then the fight basically comes to them. Jiro and Rago take the reins here, and everyone else is backup to help them get to the main fight. It feels like maybe this series was cut short, because there was a lot of potential with these other characters, who could be considered main characters and plot lines were started for, and yet we didn't quite get enough. I really wanted to know more about them, honestly, and for the relationship to reach something more real. But there wasn't enough time to go further with them, I don't think. And I don't mean that this was rushed, either, or that the characters weren't fleshed out. It feels more like they were fleshed out and then weren't given anywhere to go.This volumes wraps things up relatively well, though. The big fight happens, and the team is made up, for the most part, and clearly needed. I will say that when Rago and Jiro form together, they look a lot like Venom. This was a fun, short shonen series. I think there was more potential here than was given the space for, because I really wanted to know more about the side characters, in particular. But sometimes it can be nice to have a short ending to a shonen series, which are known to never end.(A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!)

End Game!
Surprisingly this is the last volume of Black Torch. I've loved this manga since Chapter 1, so it's a surprise to me to read that this is the end by the author. The art and story have been great in my opinion, and since Volume 1, I've loved every page. I think the entire Human vs. Mononoke premise worked well. To be honest I could see the story continuing further, but it looks like the author has run out of ideas for the title.Aside from all of that, Volume 5 sums up and answers a lot of pertinent questions that have been amassing from the beginning... but not all. We sort of learn how mononoke come into existence, at least as far as Amagi is concerned. We also learn about how the entire team of Black Torch come together as a cohesive unit (finally).Tsuyoshi Takaki has made an incredible manga, and I look forward to more from him in the future. Reading Black Torch has been great, and I'm sad to see it end so soon (and suddenly). It would be nice to think that there might be more of Black Torch in the future.
