Everything tied up at the end; "All gather in the library" style.
I found the main character, Pete Simone, thoroughly unlikable and unbelievable. Perhaps Aaron's wife Charlotte helped to portray this character, as at times Pete is an aggressive male, and at other times, he has the vapors. The book verges on being a Romance Novel rather than a mystery, thriller. With what we know of Nazi atrocities, the acts in this book do not warrant the characters hysterical panicky reactions. Lily, Pete's wife, has problems, but not enough to make her such a deceitful drama queen. I was very disappointed with this book and glad to finish it. I enjoy the Gideon Oliver mysteries very much, but this book, not so much.

My favorite.
I have read many of Mr. Elkins' books; I think that this is my favorite. It bounces you around all the way through. The protagonist is a good man with a good marriage who finds that the history his wife has told him is almost the complete opposite of the truth. He gives her her space to a point. He finally has to know what is the real story and where she has gone to sort things out. It deals with the reality and the perception of reality of the German occupation of France during World War Two. And it ends happily!

I have read Mr. Elkins other books and enjoyed them very much. This one good but I didn't enjoy it as much as his Norgren books.

Aaron Elkins is the greatest. I thought I had already read all his books so this was a treat. He's a great story teller. His Gideon Oliver series is unmatched!
