DOVO Straight Razor 4 Prima Silver Steel

This is a gorgeous razor - the handle is real ebony wood - not plastic, etc., and the gold etching is a nice touch. The steel itself is high quality, though definitely not rust resistant, so you'll have to keep it dry, store oiled, etc. And I mean, if one drop of water is left behind, it will be a rust spot the next time you open the box. In other words, you'll have to take care of it! It comes in a very classy blue metal box.Be forewarned that unless you do extensive research, spend hours watching straight razor shaving videos, and take extreme caution, you are likely to cut open large wounds on your face. This razor is sharp, sharp, SHARP - right out of the box!! Put it on a strop for a good 40-50 runs, and it will be even sharper. If you drop it and it touches your body, you're likely to lose a swath of skin. God help you if it hits a toe, or your kid, or dog on its way down... Best case scenario - it hits the floor and the edge is ruined. So, don't drop it.Learn how to use it PROPERLY! There is a high level of technique required to use this razor. As dumb as it sounds - watch videos of guys shaving on youtube - "geofatboy" of Shave Nation is a great reference and posts many videos. Even after all of your research, the learning curve for doing it yourself is steep.

Purchased online Saturday night- it arrived Monday afternoon! Wow that's something. I wanted to try this with its edge right out of the tin it comes in. It was very sharp, warmed up evenly and glided through whiskers easily. I bought this to shape my moustache and am very happy with the results. As a test I used a safety razor on the left side with a new blade and the straight razor on the right. The control you have of the Dovo's balanced handle and blade are great. I have owned many brands of shavettes over the years and they all seem to work okay but this is the gold standard shave you're looking for with a straight razor. This particular model is far from a starter blade. It's more like low-mid top shelf out of the tin, and with a little stropping you'll have the best. The handle is ebony, not synthetic. The pins are perfectly clutched so they won't over loosen in time and the blade and handle balance just right. You could pay a lot more for a blade but you would pretty much get the same shave. Upgrading from a shavette? Going straight-razor from a safety razor? This is the one to get- and with such smooth payment and shipping from this vendor you'll be very pleased! I am!

Hello , I never own a straight razor . So I bought one based upon internet reviews. $139 for razor . Plus all the other don't needed stuff. Even send it out for honing because it was shave ready but not sharp enough . What bother me the most it still Dull. I paid $12 for a utopia shavette so I can learn how to hold and use straight razor. Which I am using now. Point I am trying to make its a waste of my time energy and money . That's honestly how I feel now . I invested around $500 for whole package.....straight razor. Strop, strop oil. Shaving soap. Norton flattering stone , Norton jappiness stone 4000/6000, stone holder, Norton sharpening stone oil, shaving brush.....But not even 1 close shave

Very disappointed. This was advertised as a Dovo "Astrale". It is not. It is a Dovo "Prima" significantly less than an Astrale. The blade is not "etched in gold with the name Astrale on the blade" as advertised. This is a very disappointing purchase.

I received my Razor 2 days after the 2 day express. When I tried it For the first time, it felt like it was ripping my stubble out. But after I was done. The stubble was still there like I never shaved. The only way I could tell I shaved was my head was burning. I would recommend buying a good strop before using.

Beatuiful straight razor and ready to use out of the box. I'm deducting a star since the razor I received does not match thr razor shown. I received a razor with actual evony scales and Gold Only etching.

I bought this for my son after much research into straight razors and comparison shopping. It came on the earliest projected date, in pristine condition, labeled and sealed in a shiny blue metal box. Have not tested the edge yet but I read that all Dovo razors are pre-sharpened and shave ready just needing to be stropped. There are some razors in the same price range that are described as having ebony wood handles but they are actually synthetic wood i.e. plastic. This one is actually ebony. The model is N 4 580 = 5⁄8" 1⁄1 hohl full hollow ground but the razor differs from the catalog as it is not engraved or labeled Ebenholz on the handle. Otherwise it has the ebony wood handle with silver colored pivot and handle rivets and gold etching on the blade. He is switching to wet shaving and everything I read said buy the best not the cheapest razor. This one was less than $100 through this Amazon supplier for a pretty good quality Dovo.

Love this razor....now. I have been cutting myself up for weeks and could actually see irregularities on the blade edge...I did not cut my self too bad when I first got it so I attribute the flaws to my own crappy strop techniques. So I spent 3 bucks on a square of 600 grit and a sq of 1000 grit. On the edge of a table I honed it on the 600 4 or 5 circuits and on the 1000 6 or 7 circuits...just like a strop with very little pressure. Then stopped it as usual 40-50 circuits. Now it shaves like a dream. Very light pressure on my face and the whiskers are shed. No more little, what I called pin feathers. Just clean as a bean.
