Marttiini Arctic Carving Knife, One Size

I was looking for a long time for a carving knife that worked well and looked good, then I came across Marttiini. This model approaches perfection for me. The knife came SHARP, every bit of the blade. The handle is made of a beautiful piece of curly birch and is a neutral design to facilitate a variety of grips. For my XL sized hands, the handle is just long enough to get full grasp on it. The sheath fits like a glove and is made of good leather. I'll finish by saying I doubt I will find a better value for the dollars spent in any other knife. I qualify this statement by saying the handle on this knife would grace many knifes costing many times as much.Well, I was going to stop but I just have to address the misunderstanding of the patina on Marttinni blades. This knife is made of carbon steel, and carbon steel rusts. For this knife they choose to mitigate this issue in two ways. First by the forced patina, and secondly by the mirror polish on the scandi grind. Is the patina on the blade I received functional? YES. Is the patina aesthetic perfection worthy of display under a glass case? NO Having actually put a patina on several knives, I can tell you it can take hours and a few attempts to get a nice patina. I hope that was enough said :)

Okay before I get into the review, I would like to say that my package was damaged during shipping I believe so take this as a grain of salt. I was very disappointed when I received this knife by Amazon. out of the box it was in damaged. As you see in the picture it came right out of the Amazon packaging just like that a broken box with the knife and sheath exposed. I was hoping that the item, the knife, was still good. To my disappointment it was not. Let's start off with the knife the handle and the blade itself. the steel absolutely amazing! it fits so well in my hand and it feels so amazing. You immediately want to love everything about the knife. But unfortunately for me it could have been perfect but it wasn't. I don't know if it was because of shipping and the item came out of the package this way but the knife was dull. I could literally run my thumb over the blade and not cut myself. Felt good in my hand though and the steel is really good. Overall knife design is great just wish it was sharp. Now the sheath on the other hand you can tell they skimp out on that. I mean it's leather but it feels like it's got kydex or some type of hardening inside makes the leather feel almost fake. It doesn't feel like the knife is coming out of a leather case but rather a kydex case.

The knife and sheath are amazing. It's also amazing that they made it to my house. The seller put the knives in a shipping bag and it was beat to hell and so were the boxes the knives came in. I usually like to keep the boxes for my knives, so it was super disappointing that they were all banged up.

Far from flawless. Blade is not straight in the handle. Knife seems very comfortable when just holding it. When doing heavier carving tasks it will cause hot spots in the palm of the hand. Reverse grip or finer work seem to be ok but I don't need a knife this size to do finer carving tasks. If you sand the top and bottom of the handle it does help quite a bit. I would still recommend this knife but suggest sanding the handle and shaping it more to fit your hand.

i would have to say I own this knife and the finish is made to look like that on the blade I think looks amazing my opinion so for the other reviews the finish holds up just fine and it is bluing finish I believe and leather sheath is very well crafted and handle is wonderful looking beautiful wood I think this is amazing for the money my opinion very hard to beat your getting good carbon steel good looking wood handle and leather sheath that has dangler I have seen knives like this for 10 times as much this is wonderful carver wood working outdoors knife and comes very sharp has no finger guard if you don't have a lot experience I would go with safer knife with a guard but for what I do its perfect hope this helps

I have ordered two, both were “blued” from polishing or sharpening. This makes for a brittle spot. One was on the very tip, the other toward handle (this one was concerning and over an inch long”. Knife feels great in the hand.

MY mother said if you can't say anything nice about it don't say anything at all LOL The coating was ruined finish and as my friend said It looks used and old. One star says it all. Don't buy it is my suggestion.
