I am an avid hiker, camper, and wilderness backpacker, and organize many camping trips throughout the year for friends and family. Staying in a tent in California in the hot summer days, however, can be unbearable. For many years, there were no really good alternatives to help you cool down, but the rise of USB-charged, battery-operated fans have started giving relief to high, windless temperatures. I have tried many of them from various brands, but this particular product from a brand I have never heard of, Jomst, took me by surprise.PROS- microUSB rechargable- Good battery life- 360 degree rotation of the fan- 3 mounting options: (1) a strong clip, (2) a hook, or (3) screwed to a surface. The clip allows you to grip the fan to any thin surface, including a door, branch, rope, or table. The hook gives you the ability to hang it off one of the loops within the tent. The screw option allows you to place 2 nails or screws into a surface and hook the fan onto it. In all options, adjust the fan into the desired direction- Blades are safely behind a grid too small for baby fingers to poke into- Four, variable fan speeds- Fairly quiet at the lowest setting- 4 LED light strengths- Can be operated while being charged with a battery pack- Can stand on its own on a flat surface- Reasonably pricedCONS- No auto shutoff timer for either the fan or the light- No oscillation to spread the fan across the tentOverall, this is without a doubt one of the BEST, versatile fans I have purchased. Pros: Everything good about it has been mentioned in every other review here: surprisingly quiet, charges quickly, etc.The flaw: The current from the built-in 18650 batteries backflows into the micro USB charging port when not being charged. I ordered a replacement and tested it just to make sure that it wasn't just the one unit that I received that was defective. It seems that the circuit designer should have added a diode or a relay to cut off the connection from the USB charging port to the battery while it's not being charged.What this means: I discovered this catastrophic flaw while leaving it plugged into a 5V USB charger on my car. Unfortunately, the current that flowed back into the 12V power supply (cigarette lighter) which is connected to my car's main body ECU, made the ECU think that my ignition is still on while off, rendering the keyless entry unresponsive, and also completely draining the battery in a few hours since the ECU would not cut off the relay to all the other devices in the car when off. I imagine this may or may not cause a catastrophic event (possibly fire or explosion) when this is being charged by a more elementary power bank system.What can be done (if you know the basics of electronics): I spliced a USB charging cable and connected an SPDT relay (HK19F) to both the 5V+ line and the ground line. This would disconnect both the 5V+ and ground lines when the power supply has been cut off.Bottom line: Would I buy this again? Yes, with some modifications to the charging cable. Other than this, I am very satisfied with how well and quiet it works. Although, I wish the 18650s can be easily removable and swapped out with other 18650s, so I didn't have to use the built-in charging circuit. I just don't really trust the BMS (battery management system) in cheap electronics, especially when it comes to lithium batteries.---------Edit: Changing from 3 to 4 stars after being contacted by the vendor regarding this review. It seems to me that they care about their products and have noted this flaw. Hopefully, this issue could be fixed with the next product update.

Update:After a full nights use the hub of the blade developed a crack that set the fan off balance and now it rattles horribly. I was able to repair temporarily with tape but the fix does not last for more than an hour before the spinning force overcomes the adhesive force and we are right back to where we started rattling and vibrating. Too late to return. :(Original Review:The fan arrived quickly and with enough charge to test out and ensure proper operation. I have run on full power with lights on high for 10-15 minutes with no signs of slowing down.Performance wise this fan does a good job (for what it is). It will not cool down a whole room, and I would question its effectiveness in a 4 man tent. However, as a personal fan for one person, or two people close together this will do the trick. The low speed is good just to keep a small area from feeling stale. The high speed, when pointed directly at you will keep you cool on a warm day.I plan on utilizing this in my cabin that can get too hot in the winder when we have a fire going 24/7. If the bottom bunk is at a good temp the top bunk is WAY too hot. Mounted for the top bunk person this should help to make the temperature bearable for sleep.The clip seems sturdy and appears to have enough grip to hold onto about a 2 inch board. The hook recesses in the bottom to keep it out of the way and makes the mounting options much greater. The base is also suitable for tabletop use. Rotation on the gimbal is good and allows for the fan to point in any direction regardless of mounting location.Length of included charging cable is about 1m. The fan will run while plugged in and charging.

The media could not be loaded.  Hello,Within 14 days of delivery and used only twice the motor in the fan has broken and is loose and making lots of noise. Please contact me for a replacement unit and I am happy to retract my review.

This fan is so unbalanced. Vibrates so badly, the product statement said super quiet. This product is not worth buying. Totally unhappy. Bought a Chinese made product from the US.

I live in Australia... pretty darn hot Australia. This fan really helps to keep you cool.
