Great U-Lock and integral part of a locking system.
Impressive looking lock that does not weigh as much as other locks, but still provides excellent security for my bicycle. I use this to lock up my Bianchi Volpe and can sometimes also lock up another bike next to mine. I am not a fan of the small metal fitting that is supposed to be used with a plastic fitting to hold the lock on your bike, so I taped the metal to keep it from scratching my paint finish. I use this lock with multiple bikes, so I don't want to buy plastic fittings for each bike so taping it makes sense. The keyway is in the center of the orange part and the key goes deep into the crossmember. The keyway has a handy plastic cover to keep the keyway clean and it works well and does not get in the way. And one of the keys has a built in flashlight with just enough juice to help you unlock the lock. I feel very confident when I use this lock. Note that it has the flat key, not the old round one that could be picked easily. This lock will not survive an angle-grinder, but then again, nothing will survive such an attack. I use this lock as my primary way to prevent theft and I add an Abus frame lock with a hardened steel chain, figuring that few crooks have experience with a frame lock in the US, so if an angle grinder is used, it will cut through the Kryptonite and the Abus chain, but the frame lock would take multiple cuts, plus a lot of fussing, to defeat the frame lock which is around the rear wheel. Plus, all of this looks impressive and hopefully a thief will bypass my bike as being too much work. Note that many people use a cable lock to tie up the front wheel to the U-lock, but I prefer a hardened steel chain as a pair of pliers will not cut through the U-lock nor the chain.

Great improvement for Kryptonite
The new centered key mechanism and double-bolt design is really excellent and big improvement over the previous designs that Kryptonite used to use. The key is more complicated, the keyhole is small and has a built-in cover. The key turns very smoothly on mine. The double bolt is a great feature because the key controls bolts on *both* sides of the lock requiring a thief to cut both sides of the lock before releasing the bike. This is a substantial lock. That also means that it is *heavy*, so it may not work great if you are looking for a lock to carry around everywhere. I use this to lock up my commuter bike outside overnight, and the lock gets left on the post 24 hours a day. So far has worked out. Crossing my fingers. The common wisdom is that it is better to use as small a lock as possible to reduce the possibility of using a crowbar to get leverage on the lock. But sometimes you need a big lock, and that's when I use this guy. It works well on my hybrid to thread it through both seat stays, the wheel rim, and a sizable post. This leaves very little space and there is *always* a less securely locked bike close at hand. All locks can be broken, so the game is to lock it up enough so that most thieves would rather spend their time on other bikes (or, hopefully, doing something productive for society). It's true that the mounting bracket is a bit of nonsense. It doesn't work anywhere on my bike, so when I do carry this lock around, it has to go in a bag.

Solid lock, Mount has some issues with large frames
This is a really solid bike lock. The lock itself feels sturdy, and I'm not noticing any peeling or issues with the outer coating so far. The numerous included keys are nice, and this one's definitely much longer than many other U-Locks, which makes it much easier to lock up my bike than before. I only have one problem, and it's with the installation of the holder for the lock itself. You probably won't be able to fit this on an E-Bike with a thicker frame. The strap they include with the mount simply isn't long enough for anything larger than the small tube frame you'll get on a standard non-E-Bike, so you'll need your own replacement strap, or have to mount it on the side of your bike's back frame/basket if it has one.

HEAVY SECURITY!!! Definately feel secure with this on my bike.
Very nice lock and it looks as though it would be VERY DIFFICULT if not IMMPOSSIBLE to get around WITHOUT making a REALLY BIG JOB out of it...my ONLY gripe with it is its BIG and TOO heavy to be traveled with on a bicycle...my bike is a nice light G.H.P. 24" BMX Pro Race and I will use this lock at home on my covered porch with a tarp over the bike and a good cable lock keeping it tethered to a post, so its worth having just not travel friendly for people like me that care about the weight of their equipment. The lock feels like it weighs at LEAST 10 lbs. (and my whole bike only weighs 22 lbs. LOL)

Built very well, very sturdy - but big and heavy (duh)
This thing is huge and heavy, and a bike thief will need some tools and time to get through this thing. The lock works smoothly (which is not the case for all u-locks) and even has a cover that slides on and off the keyhole, which is nice. Comes with a couple keys, one of which has a little flashlight on it - that's cool. The only bummer is that it's a bit heavy and bulky, but that's inherent to the design, so I won't hold that against it. If you're looking for a nice, secure u-lock, I highly recommend, but have in mind where you're going to carry/store this thing while you're riding.

Good lock
Very sturdy lock. I commute to school, so bike theft isn't unknown around where I usually frequent. This lock is solid and well built. The locking mechanism seems to work without a problem and solidly secures my rear tire to my bike frame and the bike rack. I use a kryptonite cable with this to secure my front wheel. No problems so far. I'm considering buying another lock for extra security and to ease my general paranoia of theft. I would recommend.

Evolution Series 4 Standard is good but may want to get the New U when the price dips
Kryptonite Evolution series 4 Standard vs. New U Wondering what the difference is between the Standard vs. New U? I was so I searched on the Internet and Kryptonite's site and found almost no difference other than the New U is 4 oz lighter. From the Kryptonite site here are the descriptions of their deadbolts: Description for Standard: "Hardened DOUBLE DEADBOLT DESIGN gives additional protection against twist attacks" New U: "Patent-pending HARDENED DOUBLE DEADBOLT design gives additional protection against twist attacks" So one is patent pending and the other isn't? Or did they just apply for the patent later and forget to update the description for the Standard? Well now that I've received my Standard, I would say the New U gives more protection from twist attacks. That is, after sawing once through the U, how easily can a thief twist the cut U out of the way and steal the bike? Watch the video on the New U and observe the flattened ends of the U which should provide additional resistance to twisting. The Standard has a U with round ends (see attached photo); only the part that contacts the deadbolt will resist twisting. How much extra protection will the New U provide vs. the Standard? I don't know. Kryptonite rates both as security level 8. But I wish I had known of this difference before I bought one. Kryptonite should do a better job explaining the difference. Instead of both descriptions saying "additional protection against twist attacks," maybe they should delete the word "additional" from the Standard description. And be careful of price when you're buying: the New U price fluctuates between $82 (almost as much as the higher security, and higher weight, New York New U) and $68, and the Standard has varied between $66 and $40, all in the last 6 months on Amazon. So the price difference between the two models can be negligible, or quite substantial. Overall though the Evolution Standard seems like a very good lock -- replacing my ancient (~1990) Kryptonite-4 which has an easily pick-able cylindrical key!

Good compromise between an overly heavy ulock and a flimsy, breakable one
Even in NYC this is one of the larger locks that you see on the street and just a touch smaller than the Fugettaboutit. While I was initally opposed to the idea of carrying a 3.8 lb. lock everywhere the sense of security it gives me is priceless. Also, I just use the handicap/accessible stations with elevators so I don't have to actually lug this and the bike up and down the stairs. I recently bought a vintage touring Miyata on eBay in mint condition and have been rebuilding it with new handlebars, brakes, saddle, and other accessories. It's worth several hundred dollars more now than when I had bought it and I am sure its parts have not been overlooked by would-be bike thieves. So, I gladly ponied up the cash to buy this lock. It's been almost a month and my bike has been locked overnight next to racks littered with the carcasses of other people's stolen, hacked apart bikes (the image of the quick release wheel locked to the rack by itself is forever seared in my memory).

but it works fine with everything except for some really thick posts
I was a bit concerned whether I would be able to use this U-lock to pass through the frame, the rear wheel and a stationary object (such as a bicycle lock up ring). I have a mountain bike with 2.1" wide tires. I was concerned that there was not enough length or width in this U-lock, but it works fine with everything except for some really thick posts. In fact, I think that this U-lock has a perfect balance - long enough, but not too long. Other than that, this feels like a quality product and the new style lock mount has been holding pretty securely. I would buy this lock again.

Ottimo prodotto, solido, molto fashion in arancione :)

This a very sturdy bit of kit
This a very sturdy bit of kit. I'd just bough a £500 ish MTB and decided that my cable lock alone wasn't quite gonna cut it. I turned to the internet and quickly found Kryptonite to be a brand with a good reputation. After deliberating what price point I should by, I turned to this. My first impressions were bloody hell this things heavy although I've never had a U-Lock before. It comes with a few keys, one of which is bulkier than the others as it has the addition of an LED light which I have to admit I do find somewhat useful especially in the dark. The keyhole itself is covered by an orange plastic cover which stops dirt getting in. The lock itself is very sturdy and would require an angle grinder to cut through. My one complaint however is that the actually heavy U-Lock piece itself soon becomes hard to separate from the orange locking piece. This is certainly an issue, but it is combatted with a bit of WD-40 wiped onto the locking parts of the U-Lock as well as where it sits in the orange locking mechanism piece. This never caused any real trouble for me but I can certainly see how other reviewers locks have become jammed. Overall a very sturdy lock which has and continues to serve me well in conjunction with a cable lock. A lock like this is a must have for anyone who wants to keep their bike safe and taking it's small fault into account, I'd certainly recomend it to you.
