Luminox? Not so fast...
This is the watch I wanted when I bought the Casio G-shock that dissolved upon exposure to ordinary bug spray. I need to know the time regardless of ambient lighting conditions and this Timex watch performs beautifully. One can spend ten times the cost of this Timex on a Luminox to perform the same task. The difference is that with the Luminox no button need be pressed to tell time in the dark owing to radioactive tritium that is guaranteed to glow continuously for 25 years (two half-life's of tritium). This feature may be mission-critical and therefore justify the expense. For my purposes, however, this Timex Indiglo watch meets my needs at a fraction of the cost, but at the expense of having to press a button once to read time in the dark.If you are familiar with those plug-in night lights with a faint blue glow, then you are familiar with the 'Indiglo' illumination technology used in this watch. The analog hour and minute hands DO NOT glow in the dark. Rather, when the background is illuminated, the SHADOW CAST by the hour and minute hands is what allows time to be read as easily in the dark as in full sunlight. This Timex is really two independent watches in one: an analog watch set by 'old-school' pull-out post, and a digital watch with all the day/date/alarm bells and whistles. World time is not supported (as in a Casio), but you do get two time zones against which to set alarms. I also like the 40mm size of this watch: it actually fits my wrist (I am an average size male mesomorph and a not-obese vegan). Most Men's watch diameters seem to have kept apace with mens' waist diameters, and if one has a fat wrist, a larger diameter watch may make sense. Good luck with that.Unexpected was a lack of instructions on how to use the daggone thing! I had to fiddle around on the interwebs to get a pdf copy from Timex tech support (fine support, no complaints). Live chat at custserv@timex dot com. But, because I have lots of time on my hands - and because I don't want to fiddle with converting a pdf document to images that may be uploaded into this review - I will post some verbiage that will at least get one started using this very nice watch:1) Place the counter-clockwise ONLY movable bezel white triangle at the 12:00 position2) Now, at the 10-minute mark is 'ALARM' button, 20-minute mark is 'SET' button, 40-minute mark is 'MODE' button, and at the 50-minute mark is 'INDIGLO' button.3) Set the time as follows: ANALOG: At the 15-minute mark, pull out post when the second hand hits 12:00. Adjust knob to set time. Push post in securely and the time will begin incrementing. DIGITAL: Press 'MODE' to display digital time. Press and hold 'SET' until seconds are flashing. Press 'ALARM' to zero seconds. Press 'MODE' to select 'hours' digits. Press 'ALARM' to advance the hours. Press 'SET' to set hours. Repeat "ALARM'/'SET' to set minutes, 12/24 hr display mode.4) To read time in the dark, Press 'INDIGLO' once. To set NIGHT-MODE, press and hold 'INDIGLO' until beep/flash. Now, EVERY BUTTON will provide backlight illumination IN ADDITION TO its otherwise function. NIGHT-MODE lasts several hours and then reverts back to single use.I don't have to hope this is useful...I know it is. Enjoy your nice new watch!

Amazing Outdoors Watch!
Rugged, lightweight and reliable watch! Very contrasted and legible watch face with thick white hands and large contrasted LCD screen. The LCD can display day/date permanently (always accurate, unlike analog day/date watches that miss the date every other month), another time (independent from the analog watch) or a second time zone. The watch face has full illumination with indiglo, including the LCD! (Most Casios don’t offer illumination on both LCD and analog at the same time)The rotating Bezel is unidirectional and has very satisfying clicks for every second.Measuring 41mm in diameter (bezel) with a 20mm watch band width, the watch is just the right size to fit perfectly in average wrists. Not too small and not bulky (like most outdoor watches unfortunately). It pairs very well with the Suunto compass wrist band attachment (sold separately on Amazon, see pictures). In conclusion, an amazing reliable watch for all adventures!

Great watch for the hard of hearing
I want to love this watch so much. It looks great, feels well made, it's got a great band, just the functions I'm looking for. I was so pleased when I first put it on....the perfect watch. And then I sat at my computer to work, AC on in the background, the clicking of the keyboard, the hum of my computer fan....and over it all, I can still hear the watch ticking!I've had analog watches all my life, but this has the loudest 'tick' movement I have ever heard in a watch. It's distracting at work, and I'd have to put it in another room while I sleep. Argh! The frustration.Back to the drawing board.....

Highly recommended
Love it so far. Came with instructions, able to set time/date quickly. It says 41mm but appears a touch wider than that. I was rather surprised at how thick it is, but not a deal breaker by any means. So this modestly priced watch looks great, keeps good time was delivered promptly with the Timex name and reputation behind it. No good reason to keep looking, buy this watch today.

Practical, yes. Durable, I doubt it.
I'm an avid watch collector. From Omega to Casio G-Shock, I own boxes full of different brands and styles of watches. One thing missing from my collection was a Timex. After some research I chose this model based on the features and reviews. I admit, the features are impressive and would seem it has everything I'd need on kayak, hiking, and camping trips. Plus, I love the Indiglo feature for checking time for those 2 AM excursions. However, the entire watch feels very, very cheaply made for what I paid for. It feels extremely light and made of cheap plastic that could snap at the sound of a sneeze. No offense to Timex admirers, but it reminds me of something I would get out of a toy vending machine at a Chuck E. Cheese.I honestly would not trust this watch while outdoors compared to my other "outdoors" type watches. Maybe I'm trying too hard to compare this to the G-Shock (which is logical since they are both active wear watches in the same price range), but this doesn't come close to any Casio.Don't get me wrong, I don't completely hate the watch, I plan on keeping it for light treks and for casual wear once in awhile since it is aesthetically pleasing, but I'll stick with the G-Shock for other outdoor activities. 200m vs 50m is a no-brainer for which one I would wear on a weekend lake trip.PROS:* Looks nice as an outdoorsy type watch.* Analog and digital time along with date feature.* Indiglo is probably the best illuminating technology in these types of watches.CONS:* Every material feels very cheap. The band is stiff and does not feel like heavy duty canvas. I think even the clasp is plastic. The bezel is a light-weight plastic that may crack easily or allow water in.* The quartz click is very loud for a watch at this price. I can hear it 2 feet away in a quiet office.* As it's called the Expedition, the 50m water-resistance is a let down. I'd expect at least 100m for some water activities to be on the safe side.* The watch is not worth the price even if it's under $100.

Lightweight, looks better in images, received open box item
Reason for purchase: I like analog watches, needed something with glowing dials and night light. The digital date (mm-dd DD) is very nice. It's a pain having a watch that doesn't track the month as you then have to adjust the date every month and after a while you stop bothering. This watch tracks year as well.Light: The back glows for 3 secs on press of button. The dials and markers faintly glow in the dark.Strap: Hard plastic, not rubber.Instruction manual: None, had to search online.Weight: Very lightweight watch as it is all plastic materials. My previous Timex watch was heavy.Cons: Text smaller in person than in images. Very hard to see red text.Update after 2 weeks: The glass is not scratch resistant. I was washing dishes and somehow got a big scratch on the glass. I owned my previous watch for 10+ years and the mineral glass never scratched.Update after 1.5 years of owning: Even with proper use, the round rotating bezel is peeling off pretty bad. I barely touch it but it seems the glue has lost its stickiness. Would've expected better quality from Timex but I guess you get what you pay for.

Tremendous value for money
Really nicely sized, great design with excellent feature set. I use the countdown timer and stopwatch everyday for intermittent fasting. The watch is extremely lightweight as well.Con - the ticking is loud enough to interfere with reading or sleeping when in a totally silent room. Its also quite cheap and plasticky, which is to be expected given how much it costs. The hands can also cover up the digital display. Its a great watch to see if you prefer an analog-digital format, which I definitely do now. The watch feels like a gateway to things like the more expensive Casio Protrek series.

Not quite as shown
I would have preferred the original band color as shown. Instead, it's a much darker taupe, so doesn't look great with the white face and orange accents. Amazon/Timex, please be consistent with how your merchandise shows!

Buen reloj
