like any good roller coaster ride
If you are a kung fu movie fan from back-in-the-day, you have to have this movie in your collection. This movie is a roller coaster ride that you will not be expecting, and, like any good roller coaster ride, it starts out slow and excitement builds as you go.Saying anything more takes away from the enjoyment of watching this film for the first time.Amazing.

This is not a remastered DVD
I threw this movie in the trash, not that the movie was bad as a matter of fact it’s a classic, it’s the quality of the movie and this is by no means a remastered copy, this movie was copied from a VHS tape from the 70’s and looks it.

Get this now if you love old kung movies.
This is a must own movie. I got it years ago. Like 10 years ago and it's one of the greatest classic kung fu movies ever. I'm one of those people who watches these types of movies all the time. I'm talking hundreds so far. After watching so many, you tend to forget a lot of them over the years and they start blending together. However, this one sticks out a lot.First of all, you have Beardy and the kid. The story is very good and not too typical, but not unheard of either. I have to warn you though, this one will make you feel all types of emotions. You'll laugh. you'll probably cry. You'll probably yell. A similar movie to this, also starring Beardy, is Sleeping Fist. It's great, but not at great as this. If this movie is a 100%, Sleeping Fist is about 94%

So all the people who reviewed this and said this was one of the best movies or the best movie ever have obviously never seen a Bruce Lee movie. Are you kidding me? This isn't even on the same level. 3 stars is being generous.

Thundering mantis-classical kung fu
Thundering mantis is, quite simply the best kung fu movie I have ever seen. Taking the cheese from films such as drunken master yet without the totally unbelivable wire work of new legnds of Shaolin thundering mantis is both comedy and beliveable(ish). The film starts of in true karate kid fashion ie old master teaches some guy how to fight like a demon, evil kung fu master and his hordes kill master before the pupil takes revenge. However the last scene which is indelibly printed on my memory turns this all on its head, and has to be the best fight scene ever-i shant say what happens but its worth the cost of the DVD alone. Any self respecting kung fu fan has got to see this-be warned though, its not for the faint hearted. Definately not one to see with the girlfriend.

The Thundering Mantis
The DVD arrived very quickly with no complaints. I saw this movie many years ago and i am glad to finally have it in my collection. An enjoyable watch with lots of action.

Classic Kung Fu...
the English dubbing made many of these movies the icons that they are. This dvd was a vhs transfer which really spoiled the film for me. Four stars for the film itself though.
