The Long List Anthology Volume 3: More Stories From the Hugo Award Nomination List (The Long List Anthology Series)

What a gift to Science Fiction readers!
What an awesome collection of stories! I am so glad this was created! I have always wanted one source to read the stories selected for Hugo the the writers nominations award. (can't remember the acronym right now). This book made me so happy that I ended up buying the others available. I hope David Steffen continues this anthology series. My only nit to pick is that I wish the year was part of the anthology title along with the volume number.Candis

Bottom of the Hugo list
It’s called the “Long List,” and these are mostly from the bottom end. They typically confuse prolixity with profundity, and there is little or no “science” in any of them. If this represents what the Hugo’s have to choose from, SF is in dire straits.

Great writing, Not too Sciish
While the writing is excellent, I'm not enchanted with the notion that quite a few of these excellent pieces are SciFi.You decide. Not a waste of time

I really liked the first story.
Red Tooth and Cog is a cute story about a woman who feeds feral appliances, a.i. creatures that live in a park. The other stories I skimmed or didn't finish. I gave the anthology 5 stars solely based on this story. The book cover is terrific.

A disappointing collection. I thought this was going to be all about Science Fiction...the hard kind, but what I found was more sort core and mixed with fantasy (meh) and a lot of story line that left me not caring.

Great collection!
Nice variety. Thought provoking stories. This anthology took me far beyond the world I am used to. To places where I was a stranger, but with motivations I could understand. Not a full story in the lot.

Not as good as previous years
This collection was not as good as previous years, which is not the editor's fault. Thanks to him, we get to read all the nominees. I will buy the next volume. The last few entries made up for the rest.

Deservedly Hugo nominees
Several excellent stories and none less than good, which is unusual for an anthology. It is easy to see why these stories were nominated for the Hugo. A nice mix of SF and fantasy with a bit of Gothic horror for flavor. You may not like all of the stories, but all of them are well worth reading.
